1) Does the Emtek 1L1A14 multi point entry set include the multi point lock mechanism?
No. The 1L1A14 is trim only: sandcast bronze plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase, so you need the gearbox and rods from the door manufacturer or lock supplier to complete the opening.
2) Will the Emtek 1L1A14 trim fit my G-U multipoint lock?
It is built to the G-U reference prep, with 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole, and the cylinder sits below the handle. Measure your existing gearbox faceplate hole spacing at 3-5/8 inches before ordering; if your gearbox uses different spacing the plate holes will not line up.
3) Why is the outside handle on the Emtek 1L1A14 fixed and not keyed?
Because this set is made for the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a pair of swinging patio doors. Outside gets a fixed dummy-style pull, inside gets the operating lever that throws the multipoint. There is no key cylinder on it, so the active leaf carries the keyed function.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1L1A14?
Four things: finish (Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, or Tumbled White Bronze), lever style, handing, and your door thickness. Lever choices are Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma. Handing is right or left hand, and it is required, not optional.
5) Do I need to order a cylinder with the 1L1A14?
Not for this trim. The 1L1A14 is a non-keyed set with no cylinder hole function on the outside. Emtek's Sandcast Bronze multipoint trims in this family use American standard cylinders positioned below the handle, which is what the keyed active-leaf trim on the same pair of doors will take.
6) Will the Emtek 1L1A14 lever sag over time like older multipoint trim?
No. Emtek now builds the Spring Assist function into every multipoint lock trim, which returns the lever to horizontal and prevents the drooping handle you get when the gearbox spring alone carries the lever weight.
7) Is the Emtek 1L1A14 suitable for a commercial entrance?
It is a residential-rated set, solid bronze plates and handles for swinging patio doors. For a commercial or high-traffic opening with grade and fire requirements, a Grade 1 mortise lock is the right direction instead.
8) Can I match the 1L1A14 to other Emtek hardware in the house?
