1) What comes in the box with the Emtek 2414 Tuscany doorbell?
The Emtek 2414 ships as a complete trim set: the #14 Tuscany rosette plate, the pushbutton, and matching screws. The button is lighted. Emtek does not sell the screws separately, so keep them with the part until install day. It is trim only, so you still supply the chime unit and the low voltage wiring behind the wall.
2) I want my doorbell to match the rest of my Emtek door hardware. How do I pick the right rosette?
Emtek builds the same doorbell button with a rosette from each of its design families, and the model number changes with the rosette. The 2414 carries the Tuscany #14 rosette; the other Tuscany options are 2411 (#11), 2412 (#12) and 2415 (#15). If your doors are a different family, the doorbell exists there too: American Classic runs 2400, 2402, 2403, 2408, 2409, 2466 and 2404; Contemporary runs 2457, 2458, 2459, 2460, 2463 and 2465; Sandcast Bronze runs 2421 through 2425; Wrought Steel runs 2431, 2432 and 2433. Match the rosette on your existing knobs or levers and order that number.
3) Can the Emtek 2414 replace my existing wired doorbell button?
If you have a standard wired low voltage chime, the 2414 swaps in as the pushbutton at the door. It is a two wire momentary button with a lighted face, mounted with the supplied screws through the #14 rosette plate. What it will not do is replace a video doorbell or a wireless unit, since there is no camera, speaker or battery in it. Check that your existing screw holes fall under the new plate or plan to fill and redrill.
4) What finishes does the Emtek 2414 doorbell button come in?
Two: Flat Black Bronze (FB), ordered as 2414FB, and Medium Bronze (MB), ordered as 2414MB. Both are the same #14 Tuscany rosette. These are lost wax cast bronze finishes, so they pair with Emtek's Tuscany bronze knobs, levers and handlesets rather than with a plated brass or nickel entry set.
5) Is the Emtek 2414 doorbell suitable for a commercial building entrance?
Emtek classes the 2414 as residential hardware. It is a lost wax cast bronze decorative trim set built to match residential entry suites, not a commercial grade weather sealed station. For an apartment building lobby or a commercial storefront entry, spec a commercial rated pushbutton or intercom station instead.
6) Is there a longer rectangular Emtek doorbell plate instead of a round rosette?
Yes, but not in the Tuscany line. The 2414 uses the round Tuscany #14 rosette. If you want a long vertical plate, Emtek's STRETTO doorbells give you 2440 with a 1-1/2 inch by 5 inch plate and 2441 with a 1-1/2 inch by 11 inch plate. Contemporary also offers a rectangular option as 2463 and a square one as 2459.
7) Is the Emtek 2414 doorbell plate solid bronze or plated?
The Tuscany 2414 is lost wax cast bronze, and the material and substrate are both listed as bronze. Cast bronze takes its color through the alloy and its patina rather than a plated top coat, which is why it weathers on an exposed porch instead of flaking. That is also why it only offers the two bronze finishes.
