Emtek 2458-US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 2458 doorbell come with the button, or do I have to buy that separately?
The Emtek 2458 Disk Rosette doorbell ships as a complete assembly: the brass plate, the lighted push button, and matching screws. The screws are only supplied with the unit and are not sold on their own, so keep them with the box if you are staging parts for an install.
2) What finishes does the Emtek 2458 Disk Rosette doorbell come in?
Seven finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and Satin Brass (US4). If you are matching Emtek entry trim already on the door, order the same US code and the doorbell plate will read as part of the same suite. Unlacquered brass is left unfinished on purpose and will patina outdoors.
3) I want a square or rectangular doorbell plate instead of the round disk. What Emtek model do I order?
The 2458 is the Disk Rosette version. Within Emtek's Contemporary group the alternatives are the Modern Rosette (2457), Square Rosette (2459), Neos Rosette (2460), Modern Rectangular Rosette (2463), and Urban Modern Rosette (2465). For a long vertical plate, the STRETTO versions are 2440 (1-1/2 x 5 inch plate) and 2441 (1-1/2 x 11 inch plate).
4) Is the Emtek 2458 doorbell button lighted, and does it need wiring?
The button is lighted, so it runs off the doorbell transformer circuit like a standard low-voltage chime button and needs the bell wire brought to the location. It is classified as an electronic item rather than a purely mechanical trim piece.
5) Is the Emtek 2458 doorbell brass all the way through or just brass plated?
Brass is both the material and the substrate, so the plate and rosette are solid brass under the plated or applied finish rather than a brass-look coating over steel or zinc. That is what lets Emtek offer it in unlacquered brass, where the base metal is the finish.
6) Is this Emtek doorbell suitable for a commercial building entrance?
Emtek rates the 2458 as a residential product. For single-family homes, condos, and multi-family unit doors it is the right class of trim. On a commercial or institutional entry where you need a graded, code-driven access or intercom device, specify a commercial-rated station instead.
7) I have a traditional or rustic house. Which Emtek doorbell matches instead of the contemporary disk?
The 2458 disk is part of Emtek's Contemporary look. For traditional trim, American Classic runs 2400 (Regular), 2402 (Oval), 2403 (Rectangular), 2408 (#8), 2409 (Quincy), 2466 (Watford), and 2404 (Wilshire). For rustic or craftsman work, Arts and Crafts offers 2451 and the Hammered Rosette 2452, and there are Sandcast Bronze versions 2421 through 2425 and Wrought Steel 2431, 2432, and 2433.
8) Can I use the Emtek 2458 with my existing chime, or does it replace the whole system?
The 2458 is the exterior push button and plate only. It wires into the doorbell circuit you already have, so your existing transformer and chime stay in place. No chime unit or transformer is included with it.
