Emtek 2459-US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 2459 doorbell come with the button, or do I need to buy that separately?
The 2459 is a complete doorbell trim set: square rosette plate, lighted push button, and matching screws all in the box. The screws are not sold separately, so keep them with the part if the install gets staged. What it does not include is the chime or the transformer inside the house, that side of the system stays whatever you already have.
2) Will the Emtek 2459 button work with my existing wired doorbell chime and transformer?
It replaces the exterior push button on a standard low-voltage wired system, so it wires to the same two button leads your old button used. The button is lighted, which means it needs that circuit live to illuminate. It is not a wireless or battery unit, so if your current bell is a wireless kit with no wiring at the door frame, this is the wrong part.
3) I want a round doorbell plate instead of square, what is the Emtek equivalent?
Same doorbell, different rosette. Within Emtek's Contemporary group the round option is the 2458 Disk Rosette, and the other contemporary shapes are the 2457 Modern, 2460 Neos, 2463 Modern Rectangular, and 2465 Urban Modern. Step outside contemporary and Emtek runs the same doorbell under American Classic (2400 regular, 2402 oval, 2403 rectangular, 2409 Quincy), Arts and Crafts (2451, 2452 hammered), and the long STRETTO plates 2440 at 1-1/2 x 5 inches and 2441 at 1-1/2 x 11 inches. Pick the rosette that matches the rose shape on your entry lockset.
4) What finishes does the Emtek 2459 square doorbell come in, and can I match it to my other door hardware?
Seven finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and Satin Brass (US4). Those are standard US finish codes, so if your entry set and hinges are already specified by code you can match on the code rather than by eye. Unlacquered brass is the one to think about: it has no clear coat, so it will patina outdoors over time rather than stay bright.
5) Is the Emtek 2459 doorbell solid brass or plated pot metal?
Brass, both the material and the substrate, so the finish sits on brass rather than on zinc or plastic. That matters on an exterior door frame where a plated pot-metal button tends to bubble and flake after a few seasons. It also puts the 2459 in Emtek's brass collection, which is the same base metal family as their brass rosette entry trim.
6) Does the Emtek 2459 mount on the door frame or on the door itself?
It goes on the trim or jamb beside the opening, not on the door leaf, because the wiring has to stay in the fixed frame. The plate fastens with the supplied matching screws over the existing button leads. On a narrow brick mold or a tight casing, measure your available flat before committing to the square plate, the rectangular 2463 or the long STRETTO 2440 plate suit a different strip of trim.
7) I need to standardize doorbells across a group of units, can I order the Emtek 2459 in one finish across the whole building?
Yes, and the square rosette is the easiest of the Emtek shapes to keep consistent because it reads the same on every jamb width. Order the same finish code across the units and every door gets an identical brass plate and lighted button with its own screws. If some units already have a different rosette shape from the same doorbell family, the button and plate change together, so you cannot mix a square plate onto a round unit's existing hole pattern without re-drilling.
