1) Will the Emtek 4243 STRETTO privacy set fit a door already bored for a standard knob?
Not without rework. The 4243 uses a narrow 1-1/4 inch door prep with 3-3/8 inch center-to-center hole spacing, which is not the common single 2-1/8 inch bore layout used by a standard knob or lever set. The cross bore itself is 2-1/8 inch, and backset is adjustable at 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch. On a door already prepped for a conventional set, plan on a new narrow trim prep.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 4243 STRETTO privacy set?
Four things beyond finish: the knob or lever style for the inside trim (25 choices, from the Aurora, Bryce and Teton levers to the Egg, Windsor and Modern Square knobs), handing (right or left), backset (2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch), and door thickness range. Handing is required because of the lever, and 2-3/8 inch is the standard backset unless you call out 2-3/4.
3) Is the Emtek 4243 a keyed lock or just a bed and bath privacy function?
Privacy only, no key. The 4243 is a non-keyed bed/bath function, so it locks from the inside with an emergency release on the outside. For an entry door that needs a key, you want a keyed narrow trim set instead.
4) Does the Emtek 4243 come with a latch and strike, or do I buy those separately?
It ships as a complete set including the latch and the strike plate. The latch supplied is a 28 degree latch, and the faceplate comes round corner or square corner to match your existing door mortise.
5) Is the Emtek 4243 lockset rated for commercial use?
It is a residential product. For apartment turns or single-family interiors it is the right category; for a high-traffic commercial opening a property manager should be specifying a commercial bored or mortise lock instead.
