That's exactly what the 6143 STRETTO is built for. The trim plate measures 1-1/2" x 11-1/8", and it uses a narrow 1-1/4" door prep with 3-3/8" center-to-center hole spacing rather than the usual wide rosette layout. If your door rail or stile is too slim to take a standard 2-1/8" round rosette, this narrow trim plate is the way to get a knob or lever on it.
2) What backset does the Emtek 6143 narrow trim lockset use, and can I use it on a 2-3/4 inch prep?
Both standard backsets are covered. The latch is adjustable for a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset, and 2-3/8" is what ships unless you call out 2-3/4" on the order. Measure from the door edge to the center of the cross bore to confirm which one your existing prep uses.
3) Does the Emtek 6143 passage set work on a 1-3/8 inch interior door?
Yes. The 6143 STRETTO passage set covers doors from 1-3/8" up to 1-3/4", which takes in both the older 1-3/8" interior doors and standard 1-3/4" stock. The cross bore is 2-1/8", the same bore a conventional bored lockset uses.
4) Is the Emtek 6143 a locking set, and where should I use it?
It's a passage set, non-keyed, so there is no locking of any kind. The knob or lever retracts the latch from both sides at all times. Use it on hallway, closet, and pantry doors. For a bathroom or bedroom you want a privacy set instead, and for an entry you want a keyed function.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 6143 STRETTO set?
Four choices are required. Finish, which is Flat Black (FB) or Medium Bronze (MB). The knob or lever, chosen from sixteen brass and porcelain designs including Medici, Napoli, Octagon and Padua levers, Octagon, Parma, Petal, Diamond, Georgetown, Old Town, Bristol, Hampton, Lowell and Windsor knobs, and Ebony or Ice White porcelain knobs. Handing, right or left. And backset, 2-3/8" or 2-3/4".
6) Do I need to know the handing for an Emtek 6143 passage lockset?
If you're putting a lever on it, yes. Handing is called out for leversets so the lever hangs the right way on your door. Stand on the outside of the door: hinges on the right is right hand, hinges on the left is left hand. Knob versions are symmetrical in use, but the order still asks you to pick a hand.
