1) What is the difference between the 712/732 faceplate and the 712/732-75 faceplate?
Keeper depth is the whole difference. The 712/732 faceplate comes with a 1/2 inch PK keeper and handles latchbolts with 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch throw. The -75 version comes with a 3/4 inch PK keeper and handles 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch throw latchbolts. Measure the throw on the lock you already have in the door, then pick the keeper that covers it.
2) I have a wood frame, not hollow metal. Which Folger Adam 700 Series faceplate do I need?
Wood frames take the 732 or 732-75. The 712 and 712-75 are the hollow metal frame versions. The 732 models use an offset solenoid, which is what lets them sit in a wood jamb. Within the wood frame pair, 732 covers 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch throw latchbolts and 732-75 covers up to 3/4 inch.
3) Will a Folger Adam 700 Series electric strike work with a Sargent or Best mortise lock?
The 712-75, 732-75 and 742-75 with LBMLCM are stated compatible with SARGENT 78/8200 Series and BEST 40 Series mortise locks using a 3/4 inch latchbolt. Two catches: with the 3/4 inch keeper, latchbolt detection depends on the door gap staying at or under 1/8 inch, and any mortise lock application requires relocating the center line of the prep. HES support should be consulted on Best 40 Series specifically, and on mortise locks from other makers.
4) Is the Folger Adam 700 Series electric strike fire rated for a 3 hour door?
Yes, UL 10C fire rated for 3 hours on both single and double doors, fail secure only. It is also CAN4-S104 (ULC-S104), NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152 fire door conformant, UL1034 burglary resistant listed, UL 294 listed, ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1, and New York City accepted. If your opening is a fire door, you must order the fail secure configuration; the fail safe option is not covered by the fire rating.
5) Can I use a Folger Adam 700 Series strike on a door where the latch is under pressure from a closer or stack pressure?
No. The 700 Series is not preload capable, so it should not go on an opening where the latchbolt sits under side load from a door closer, weatherstrip compression or building stack pressure. On a preloaded door the keeper will not release reliably. For those openings you need a strike specifically listed as preload rated.
6) Should I order the Folger Adam 700 Series fail secure or fail safe?
Fail secure is standard and it is the only configuration carrying the UL 10C 3 hour fire rating, so any fire rated opening is decided for you. Fail safe is an option for egress or free-exit applications on non fire rated doors, where you want the strike to release when power drops. Fail safe draws power continuously to stay locked, which is why the continuous duty coil rating matters on those doors.
7) Can a Locknetics CCFP-KIT be used on a Folger Adam 700 series electric strike?
No. The Locknetics CCFP-KIT is a faceplate kit for Locknetics CS series strikes, and the 712/732 faceplate is cut for the Folger Adam 700 series body. Faceplate cutouts are dimensioned to a specific strike chassis and keeper, so a CS series plate will not register on a 700 series strike. If the frame prep was done for the 700 series, stay with the 712/732 plate and choose the 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch PK keeper version that matches the latchbolt throw.
8) How do I get latch monitoring on a Folger Adam 700 Series strike?
Specify the LBMLCM option, which adds latchbolt and locking cam monitoring so the access control head end sees both whether the door is latched and whether the strike is secure. Watch the door gap: with a 3/4 inch keeper, latchbolt detection requires the gap not exceed 1/8 inch, and with a 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch keeper detection may also depend on the gap. Wide, sprung or warped doors are where this option disappoints.
9) What voltage and current does the Folger Adam 700 Series strike draw?
It runs on 12 or 24 VDC, continuous duty either way. Draw is .29 amps at 12VDC and .15 amps at 24VDC. Size the power supply against the higher figure if you are running 12 volts, and remember it is a continuous duty coil, so it can sit energized (fail safe wiring) without cooking.
10) How strong is the Folger Adam 700 Series strike for a high abuse opening?
1,500 lbs static strength and 70 ft-lbs dynamic, with an all stainless steel body. That is the reason it goes into detention, transit and school corridor work where a lighter aluminum bodied strike gets torn out. Tamper resistant construction, and stainless also handles corrosion, though the unit is not rated for outdoor exposure.
11) What accessories do I need to order with a Folger Adam 700 Series electric strike?
Depends what the strike is wired into. The catalog lists the 150 strike latch guard, 152 universal mounting tabs, 2001-1 wire-in and 2001M plug-in bridge rectifiers for AC sources, the 2004M ElectroLynx adapter for hinge-transfer wiring, the 2005M3 SMART Pac III, and the 2006M plug-in buzzer for door release annunciation. The strike itself uses a plug-in connector, so most of these land as plug-in modules rather than field splices.
12) Can I buy just the faceplate for an existing Folger Adam 700 Series strike, or do I have to replace the whole unit?
The faceplate and keeper are available on their own, which is the usual fix when a plate has been damaged, the finish no longer matches the rest of the openings, or the lock in the door was changed to a different latchbolt throw. Changing from the 1/2 inch to the 3/4 inch PK keeper plate is how you adapt an installed 712 or 732 body to a heavier throw mortise latch.
13) What other brands of electric strike faceplate kit can I get if I am not running Folger Adam hardware?
Faceplates are strike-specific, so the right one follows whatever body is already in the frame. 14) Does the Folger Adam 700 Series work with cylindrical locksets or only mortise locks?
Both. The 700 Series takes mortise or cylindrical locks. The difference in practice is the prep: a cylindrical latch drops in on the standard center line, while a mortise lock application requires relocating the center line of the strike cutout. Plan that into the frame prep before you order, because it changes the layout of the cut, not just the plate.
15) Which faceplate do I order for a Locknetics MDS series strike instead of the Folger Adam 712/732?
For an MDS series strike the plate is the Locknetics MDSFP-KIT-10B face plate kit. The 712/732 faceplate is dedicated to the Folger Adam 700 series and will not cover an MDS body. Confirm the series stamped on the existing strike before ordering either one.
16) Is the Locknetics NCCFP-KIT an equivalent replacement for a Folger Adam 712 faceplate?
It is not an equivalent. The NCCFP-KIT is the face plate kit for Locknetics NC series electric strikes. The 712 faceplate serves the Folger Adam 700 series, a fire-rated Grade 1 strike used with mortise or cylindrical locks. Two plates that both cover an electric strike are still cut to different chassis, so match the kit to the strike series in the opening.
17) A supplier offered BEA MS31 faceplates when I asked for 712 faceplates - are those the same kind of part?
No. The BEA 70.5825 faceplates belong to the MS31 series microwave motion sensor used for touchless activation, so they are the cover plates for a sensor that requests the door to open. The 712/732 faceplate is part of an electric strike that releases the latchbolt on 12/24 VDC. On an automatic opening you may end up with both, but one does not replace the other.
18) What finishes does the Folger Adam 712/732 faceplate come in?
Six: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. All six are offered on both the 1/2 inch PK keeper and 3/4 inch PK keeper versions, so keeper depth does not limit your finish choice when you are matching the rest of the openings in a building.
19) I need a stainless steel faceplate for an exterior opening - does the 712/732 work outdoors?
The 712/732 faceplate is stainless steel and is built for commercial interior openings; it is not outdoor rated and not windstorm rated. For an exposed opening, specify a strike and plate assembly qualified for that condition rather than adapting the 700 series plate to it.
