Note: Double-door models are available with 4 different center-to center dimensions between latchbolt keepers. Keepers are wide enough to compensate for vertical-rod exit bolts which may be as much as 3/8" off center-to-center dimension, either way.

When using an electric strike in conjunction with a vertical-rod device, it is necessary that:

  1. The bottom rod of the exit device be removed or made inoperative
  2. The latchbolt of the exit device be the "Pullman" or beveled type
  3. The latchbolt be free-latching and remain projected while the door is open. Mechanisms that hold the latchbolt retracted while the door is open, and automatically release it when the door is closed, must be removed or made inoperative

NOTE: The electric strike will not operate with a deadbolt stye vertical rod.

HES 310-6-1 627 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I pick the right 310-6 faceplate for my pair of doors?
Measure the center-to-center spacing between the vertical rod latchbolts on the two leaves, then match it: 310-6-30 covers 2-5/8 to 3-3/8 inches, 310-6-1 covers 4 to 4-3/4 inches, 310-6-2 covers 4-5/8 to 5-3/8 inches, and 310-6-3 covers 5-1/4 to 6 inches. If you only need to electrify the active leaf, the 310-6-8 is the one. Keepers are wide enough to absorb up to 3/8 inch of error either way from the nominal center-to-center dimension, so a slightly off field measurement is not fatal.
2) Will the HES 310-6 work with my vertical rod exit device?
Only if the device uses a swinging Pullman or beveled latchbolt that free-latches and stays projected while the door is open. Three conditions have to be met: the bottom rod is removed or made inoperative, the top latchbolt is the Pullman type, and any mechanism that holds the latch retracted while the door is open (and drops it on closing) is removed or defeated. A deadbolt style vertical rod will not work with this strike at all.
3) Can I use the 310-6-8 on both leaves of a pair?
No. The 310-6-8 is built for the active leaf only and ships with the PK keeper. If you need both leaves electrified from one faceplate, order one of the double-door models (310-6-1, -2, -3 or -30) sized to your vertical rod center-to-center spacing.
4) Is the HES Folger Adam 310-6 fail safe or fail secure?
Fail secure is the standard build, and fail safe is available as an option, with the mode field selectable. Fail secure keeps the door locked when power drops and is what most egress-side rim exit openings use, since the exit device still lets people out mechanically. Fail safe releases on power loss and is typically specified where the fire alarm has to free the opening.
5) Does the HES 310-6 carry a Grade 1 rating and UL listings?
It is ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1, UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed, UL 294 listed, and RoHS compliant. Note it is not fire rated, not outdoor rated, and not windstorm rated, so keep it off fire door assemblies and exterior weather-exposed frames.
6) Can an RCI B4-704 faceplate be used to replace a Folger Adam 310-6 faceplate?
No. The RCI B4-704 is a 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch round-corner faceplate made for RCI 4 and 7 Series electric strikes, which is a narrow ANSI-style plate for a cylindrical or mortise latch strike cutout. The Folger Adam 310-6 faceplates are vertical-mounted plates for the 310 Series, sized to the leaf configuration and to the center-to-center spacing of the vertical rods, in versions covering 2-5/8 to 3-3/8 inch, 4 to 4-3/4 inch, 4-5/8 to 5-3/8 inch, and 5-1/4 to 6 inch, plus an active-leaf-only version. The cutouts and keeper arrangements are not interchangeable, so the plate has to match the strike body it is mounted to.
7) What voltage and current draw should I size the power supply for on a 310-6 strike?
Continuous duty draw is 510 mA at 12 VDC or 250 mA at 24 VDC, and the unit runs on 12/24 VDC. Add those figures per strike when totalling a multi-door access control panel or supply.
8) Is the 310-6 strong enough for a high traffic or high abuse opening?
Static strength is 1,500 lbs, dynamic strength is 70 ft-lbs, and endurance is rated at 1 million cycles, with the whole body built of stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance. That is the spec set schools, hospitals and other heavy-use institutional openings are usually looking for on a vertical mounted strike.
9) Do I need to specify handing on the 310-6 faceplate?
No handing to call out. The 310-6 is non-handed, and the keeper is adjustable to take up door and frame misalignment, which is the usual cure when a retrofit frame is a little out of true.
10) Will the 310-6 hold against a door under preload?
No. The 310-6 is not preload capable, so if your pair tends to bind against the weatherstrip or closer pressure and the latch is loaded when the strike releases, this is the wrong choice. Adjust the closers and gasketing so the latch is unloaded, or specify a preload-rated strike instead.
11) What accessories should I order with a 310-6 electric strike?

13) What is the difference between the RCI B6-04 and the RCI B4-704 electric strike faceplates?
Both are 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch round-corner faceplates in satin stainless steel, but they are keyed to different strike bodies: the B6-04 is for the RCI 6 Series and the B4-704 is for the RCI 4 and 7 Series. If you are replacing a damaged or mis-finished plate, order to the series stamped on the strike you already have in the frame. Neither is a substitute for a Folger Adam 310-6 plate, which mounts to the 310 Series vertical strike.
