The HES 1600 Series Electric Strike is the most advanced electric strike available on the market for cylindrical latchbolt and deadbolt locks. It accommodates up to a 1” deadbolt with enhanced vertical cavity spacing and will accommodate every brand of cylindrical or mortise lock designed to work with a 4-7/8” strike plate.


The HES 1600 Series Electric Strikes set a new standard in the industry by offering dynamic integrated adjustability and field configurable options compatible with any cylindrical or mortise lock. 1) Will the HES 1600CDB work with the deadbolt on my mortise lock, or do I need a specific faceplate?
The 1600CDB Complete Pac ships the 1600 strike body plus the 1DB faceplate kit, which covers four deadbolt faceplates so you pick the one that matches your lock at install. 1N suits Accurate, Arrow, Baldwin, Marks, Omnia and PDQ mortise locks where the deadbolt runs as a night latch. 1ND covers Sargent 7700 and 8100 and Yale 8700. 1NM is for mortise locks with a deadlatch below the latchbolt: Best 45H and 47H and 34H-37H, Corbin/Russwin, Falcon, and Sargent 7800, 8200 and 9200. 1NTD handles a normally extended 1 inch deadbolt with no deadlatch on Arrow, Baldwin, Marks, Omnia and PDQ. All four are 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches for metal frames.
2) Can the HES 1600 electric strike handle a full 1 inch deadbolt throw?
Up to a 1 inch deadbolt, yes. The 1600 body has enhanced vertical cavity spacing for deadbolt projection, and it accepts any brand of cylindrical or mortise lock built for a 4-7/8 inch strike plate. If your lock throws more than an inch, this is not the strike for that opening.
3) Is the HES 1600CDB electric strike fail safe or fail secure, and what happens on a power failure?
Field selectable, so one part covers both. Set fail secure and the deadbolt stays held when power drops, which is what you want on an exterior or stairwell door and what the UL 10C fire rating requires. Set fail safe and the strike releases on power loss for egress-on-fail openings. On a fire rated door, only the fail secure setting is covered by the 3 hour single door listing.
4) Is the HES 1600CDB fire rated for a labeled door?
Fire rated, and the listings are specific: UL 10C at 3 hours on a single door in fail secure only, and 1-1/2 hours on a double door. It is also CAN4-S104 (ULC-S104), NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152 fire door conformant and California Fire Marshal listed. Set it fail safe and you give up the single door 3 hour rating.
5) What power supply do I need for a HES 1600 series electric strike?
Dual voltage, 12 or 24 VDC/VAC, drawing .24 amps at 12 volts and .12 amps at 24 volts. On DC it is continuous duty; on AC it is intermittent duty only, so do not hold it energized on AC. It is PoE friendly, and ElectroLynx connectors are standard if you are tying into a harnessed frame.
6) Do I need the LM, DLM, LMS or DLMS version of the 1600CDB, or is the plain one enough?
Order the plain 1600-CDB if the access control system only needs to release the door. Add monitoring when the head end has to know the door state: LM gives a single lock monitor, DLM gives dual lock monitors for two separate reporting circuits, LMS adds a strike monitor to a single lock monitor so you see both bolt position and keeper position, and DLMS gives dual lock monitors plus the strike monitor. All four monitor builds are available in every one of the seven finishes. Monitors are also available separately as OPT-1LM and OPT-1DLM if you need to add them later.
7) Can I use the HES 1600CDB in a wood frame?
The strike body works in metal and wood frames, but the faceplates decide it. The 1DB kit that comes in the 1600CDB is metal frame prep. For a wood frame you want the 1DB-2 option with the 1N-2 faceplate, 9 x 1-3/8 inches, which is the wood frame plate and also covers Accurate, Arrow, Baldwin, Marks, Omnia, PDQ, Schlage and Yale 8700 night-latch deadbolt applications.
8) Will the HES 1600 strike still release if my door is pushing against it under wind or stack pressure?
No, and this one matters. The 1600 is not preload capable, so if the door leans on the keeper the strike may not release. On an opening with stack pressure, wind load, or a door closer pulling the leaf tight, you need a preload rated strike instead. The 1600 does carry a field adjustable integrated shim, which lets you dial the gap in and cut the preload that a misaligned frame causes, but a genuinely loaded door is outside what this strike handles.
9) How deep does the frame cutout need to be for a HES 1600 electric strike?
The strike is 1-5/8 inches deep and 1-3/4 inches wide, with a 4-1/8 inch faceplate on the body. Check the depth against your frame before you cut, particularly on a shallow hollow metal profile or where the frame is grouted. HES-MTK metal template kits are available for laying out the prep.
10) Does the HES 1600 need to be ordered handed?
Non-handed. One part covers left and right hand openings, which is why it is worth stocking for a fleet of doors instead of tracking handing per opening. Faceplates and accessories are interchangeable and components are field replaceable, so you can reconfigure rather than reorder a whole strike.
11) If the solenoid or spring fails in a HES 1600, do I have to replace the whole strike?
No. Components are field replaceable on the 1600 platform. The MOD-1SOL solenoid replacement module swaps the solenoid, and OPT-1SRK is the spring replacement kit. On a fleet of doors that means a service call instead of pulling the strike and re-prepping the frame.
12) Can I get the HES 1600CDB in a finish that matches the rest of my door hardware?

The 613E and BSP are powder coat, the rest are plated or polished metal. Faceplate, keeper, case and trim are all finished, so the strike reads as part of the opening rather than a raw insert. 13) What is the strike lip or pocket dimension on the HES 1600 for a deadbolt?
