The HES 8000 Series Electrical Strike is a compact, high performance electric strike featuring a unique concealed design for use with cylindrical locksets. No cutting on the frame is required. Simply remove the existing strike plate, adjust the vertical alignment feature to the latchbolt centerline and install. Its strength is derived from a unique keeper pin locking design, enabling the HES 8000 to exceed the ratings of the frame, door and locking hardware. HES 801 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which HES 8000 faceplate do I use on an aluminum storefront frame?
For aluminum frames, use the 801A, 802, or 803. The 801A is 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with radius corners and a flat faceplate, the 802 is 7-15/16 x 1-7/16 inches, and the 803 is 6-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with radius corners. All three include universal mounting tabs. The 801 is the one to avoid here, it is cut for ANSI metal jambs.
2) What faceplate goes with an HES 8000 strike in a wood frame?
The 805 is the wood-frame plate, 9 x 1-3/8 inches with radius corners and a flat face, using four point mounting to spread the load into the wood jamb. The other plates in the group are cut for metal or aluminum frames.
3) Will an HES 8000 faceplate work with a mortise lock or a deadbolt?
No. Every faceplate in the 8000/8300 group is cut for cylindrical locksets with latchbolts up to 5/8 inch throw. A mortise lock, with its larger latch and separate deadbolt, needs a different strike family entirely. If the door has a cylindrical lockset with a 1/2 to 5/8 inch latchbolt, these plates are correct.
4) My latchbolt is a full 5/8 inch throw. Is that too much for the HES 8000 strike?
5/8 inch works, but only with a 1/8 inch door gap. The 8000 strike accommodates 1/2 to 5/8 inch cylindrical latchbolts, with the 5/8 inch figure conditional on that gap. Measure the gap between door edge and jamb before you commit, because a tight gap with a long bolt is where these installs bind.
5) Do I have to cut the frame to install an HES 8000 electric strike?
No cutting. The 8000 is a concealed-design strike that goes in behind the existing strike plate location, so you pull the old plate, set the vertical alignment to the latchbolt centerline, and fit the appropriate faceplate. That vertical adjustability is also what lets it take up door sag and misalignment on an older opening. Strike body depth is 1-1/16 inches, so confirm the jamb cavity has that much room.
6) Will an HES 8000 strike hold up under preload from a closer or a warped door?
No, the 8000 is not preload capable. If the door pushes against the keeper under stack pressure, a positive-pressure closer, or a warped leaf, the strike may not release on signal. For openings with known preload you need a strike specified as preload rated, not this one.
7) I have an RCI 6 Series strike in the frame - can I use an HES 801A plate on it?
No. The RCI B6-04 is the 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch round corner faceplate for RCI 6 Series strikes; the 801A is the radius corner flat faceplate for HES 8000/8300 Series strikes in aluminum frames. Faceplates are keyed to the strike body they cover, so a 6 Series body takes the 6 Series plate. If you are replacing the whole assembly rather than just the plate, that is when the HES 8000 strike and its 801A plate come into play.
8) Can HES 8000 faceplates be used on an exterior door?
Yes, the 8000 Series is UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed and suitable for outdoor use, and it is rated ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 with a UL 294 listing for access control. Static strength is 1,500 lbs and dynamic strength 70 ft-lbs, with 500,000 cycles of endurance, which is the range a perimeter entry on a commercial building sees.
9) Do I need to order a left or right hand HES 8000 faceplate?
Handing is not a factor. The 8000 strike is non-handed and the field-selectable fail safe / fail secure setting is made at install, not at order time. So you specify the faceplate by frame type and the finish, nothing else.
10) What voltage does the HES 8000 electric strike run on and how much current does it draw?
It runs 12 or 24 VDC/VAC, field selectable, drawing .24 amps at 12 volts and .12 amps at 24 volts. Note the duty rating: DC continuous duty, AC intermittent duty only. Wire it AC on a door that stays energized all day and you will cook it. The strike uses a plug-in connector rather than flying leads.
11) What else do I need to order with an HES 8000 strike to finish the job?
Depends on the power and monitoring you need. The plug-in accessories are the 2001M bridge rectifier for AC-to-DC conversion, the 2004M ElectroLynx adapter for plug-together wiring, the 2005M3 SMART Pac III, and the 2006M plug-in buzzer. If the access control system needs to know the latch is secure, the LBM latchbolt monitor is the option to add. If you want strike, faceplate, and hardware in one box, the 8000 Complete Pac covers it, though Complete Pacs come only in 630 satin stainless.
12) I need a longer faceplate to cover the old strike cutout in my jamb. Which one covers the most?
The 802 is the longest at 7-15/16 x 1-7/16 inches, followed by the 805 at 9 x 1-3/8 inches for wood, then the 803 at 6-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches. All three carry universal mounting tabs on the aluminum-frame plates, which helps when the original prep does not line up with the new fastener points. Compare the plate dimension against your existing cutout before choosing.
13) Are HES 8000 faceplates ANSI prepped, and which ANSI numbers do they meet?
All six plates carry ANSI/BHMA numbers E05031, E09321, E09322, and E09323. The 801 in particular is cut for ANSI metal jambs, so on a facility standardized to ANSI strike prep it drops into the existing frame prep without modification.
14) The RCI faceplates only come in satin stainless - what if I need to match brass or bronze hardware?
