1) Will the HES Folger Adam 310-2-3/4 electric strike work with my lockset's 3/4 inch throw latchbolt?
That is exactly what the 310-2-3/4 is built for: a 3/4 inch throw latchbolt without a deadbolt, on single doors and pairs. It ships with a 3/4 inch keeper as standard. If your lock has a 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch throw latch, the 310-2 with its 1/2 inch keeper is the right one instead. And if the lockset has both a 3/4 inch latchbolt and a 1 inch throw deadbolt, neither of those fits, you need the 310-3-1 with the 1 inch keeper (the deadbolt has to be retracted manually).
2) Does the 310 Series electric strike work with mortise locks or only cylindrical locks?
Both. The 310 Series takes either a mortise or a cylindrical lock, as long as the lock presents a latchbolt and no deadbolt. On the 310-2-3/4 the latch has to be a 3/4 inch throw. That covers most commercial openings where the lockset is doing the latching and the strike is doing the release.
3) Do I have to order the HES 310-2-3/4 handed, and what if my frame is slightly out of alignment?
No handing to specify. The 310-2-3/4 is non-handed, so the same unit goes in a left hand or right hand opening. The keeper is horizontally adjustable, which is there to take up door and frame misalignment, so a jamb that has settled or a door that sits a little proud does not automatically mean a new frame prep.
4) Should I order the 310-2-3/4 fail safe or fail secure, and what happens on a fire rated door when the power drops?
Fail secure is the standard build and it is the only configuration carried by the UL 10C 3-hour fire rating, on both single and double doors. Fail secure means the door stays locked when power is lost and you always get out by turning the lever from the inside. Fail safe unlocks on power loss, which is what you want on a stairwell or an egress path controlled by a fire alarm interface, but do not put it on an opening where the fire label is the reason the strike is there. Both options are orderable.
5) Can I use the 310-2-3/4 on a pair of doors without a coordinator?
Not this one. The 310-2-3/4 covers single doors and pairs, but a pair running without a door coordinator is the specific job of the 310-2-3/4OB. Same 3/4 inch throw latchbolt, same 3/4 inch keeper, built for that condition. One thing to weigh before you pick it: the LCBMA latchbolt and locking cam monitor with auxiliary switch is available on every 310 model except the 310-2-3/4OB, so if you need monitoring on that pair you have a conflict to resolve at the door, not at the strike.
6) How much abuse will the HES 310 electric strike take on a high traffic door?
This is the heavy end of the electric strike range. Static holding force is 1,500 lbs, dynamic strength is 70 ft-lbs, and the body is stainless steel throughout, which is what keeps it going in high abuse openings that kill lighter strikes and what gives it corrosion resistance. The endurance rating is 1,000,000 cycles. For a school corridor, a hospital service door, or a multi-family entry taking constant use, that is the class of product to be specifying. Note it is not rated for outdoor installation.
7) Will the 310 electric strike hold up if the door is under pressure from a closer or a stack effect?
Do not spec it for that. The 310 Series is not preload capable, so if the opening puts side load on the latch, from a hard closer, a warped leaf, weatherstripping compression, or building stack pressure in a stairwell or a high rise corridor, this strike is not the one to use. Preload shows up as a strike that will not release on command or a keeper that binds. On an opening you know is under pressure, look for a strike specifically rated preload capable.
8) What voltage does the HES 310-2-3/4 run on and how much current do I need to allow for?
12 or 24 VDC, and you pick the voltage when you order. Current draw is .51 amps at 12VDC continuous duty and .25 amps at 24VDC continuous duty. If you are running several strikes off one supply, the 24V option roughly halves the load per door, which matters when you are sizing a power supply for a bank of openings.
9) Can I get door position and latch monitoring from the HES 310 strike, or do I need a separate contact?
The strike can do it. 11) Is the HES 310 strike suitable for an exterior door or a coastal opening?
It is not outdoor rated, and it is not windstorm rated either, so keep it on interior openings. The stainless steel construction gives it corrosion resistance, which helps in a damp mechanical room or a wash-down adjacent space, but corrosion resistance is not the same thing as an outdoor listing and it will not satisfy a windborne debris requirement in a hurricane zone.
