1) Can this sink be dropped into an existing countertop cutout, or does it have to go under?
It's undermount only. The CTD-3350 has no deck or rim to rest on a counter, so it mounts to the underside of a stone or solid-surface top using the included mounting hardware. A cutting template and installation instructions come with it. If your counter is laminate with a finished cutout edge, you need a top-mount (drop-in) sink instead.
2) How big is each bowl on the Houzer CTD-3350 double bowl sink?
Both bowls are the same, 15 x 16 x 10 inches, which is what the 50/50 basin split means. Ten inches of depth clears a stock pot or a sheet pan on edge, and the equal split lets you prep in one side and stack dishes in the other. If you want one large bowl for oversized cookware, a 60/40 or single bowl is the better choice.
3) What drain size do the CTD-3350 bowls take, and will a standard disposal fit?
Each bowl has a 3-1/2 inch drain opening, the standard US kitchen size, so a standard garbage disposal mounting flange fits either side. The sink ships with two basket strainers, so if you're putting a disposal on one bowl you'll have a spare strainer for the other.
4) What comes in the box with the Houzer CTD-3350, and what do I still need to buy?
You get the sink, two 190-9180 basket strainers, two BG-4170 bottom grids, mounting hardware, a cutting template, and instructions. Not included: faucet, disposal, and the P-trap and tailpiece assembly. A CB-4100 cutting board is an optional add-on. The sink has no deck, so faucet holes are drilled in the countertop, which means you can run a single hole, widespread, or wall-mount faucet as you like.
5) Where are the drains located on this sink, and how does that affect the plumbing rough-in?
Both drains sit at the rear of the bowls rather than centered. That puts the tailpieces closer to the back wall, which generally keeps more usable floor space under the cabinet for a disposal, filter, or storage. Set your trap and wall stub to the rear-offset positions on the spec sheet rather than assuming center outlets.
6) Is 18 gauge stainless heavy enough for a rental or multi-family kitchen?
The CTD-3350 is 18 gauge T-304 stainless, which is the common spec for residential and light commercial kitchens and holds up better to dent and flex than the 20 and 22 gauge sinks sold at the low end. T-304 is the chromium-nickel grade that resists food acids and cleaners. A sound-absorbing pad is bonded to the underside to cut the drumming you get on thinner bowls.
7) What finish is the Houzer Contempo CTD-3350, and will it match other stainless appliances?
One finish only: satin brushed stainless. That's the standard brushed look on most stainless ranges, dishwashers, and refrigerators, so it reads consistent in a kitchen already running stainless appliances.
