1) Will the Houzer CTO-3370 undermount sink fit a 36 inch sink base cabinet?
Yes. The CTO-3370 measures 33 x 18 x 10 inches overall and calls for a 36 inch minimum cabinet. That is the smallest base it goes in, and there is no slack below it, so a 30 or 33 inch base will not take this sink. On a 36 inch base you are working with about an inch and a half of cabinet wall on either side of the bowl body, which is tight for undermount clip and rail hardware but is what Houzer specifies.
2) What is the difference between the Houzer CTO-3370SL and CTO-3370SR?
It is which side the small prep bowl lands on. The CTO-3370SL puts the prep bowl on the left, the CTO-3370SR puts it on the right. Both are the same 70/30 split, same 33 x 18 x 10 inch outside, same satin stainless, and both ship with the basket strainer and both bottom grids. Pick the orientation off how the kitchen runs: most people put the small prep bowl on the side away from the dishwasher so the big bowl stacks dishes next to it.
3) What comes in the box with the Houzer CTO-3370, and what else do I need to buy?
You get the sink, a basket strainer (190-9180), two bottom grids sized to the bowls (BG-4090 and BG-4210), the mounting hardware, a template, and instructions. What is not included is the faucet, the drain assembly for the second bowl if you are not putting a disposal there, the P-trap and tailpiece, and the silicone or epoxy for setting the sink to the counter. The cutting board CB-4100 is an add-on, not in the box.
4) Can the Houzer CTO-3370 be undermounted to a laminate or butcher block counter?
The CTO-3370 is an undermount sink, so it hangs below the deck and needs a countertop that can carry it on a cut and sealed edge. Stone, quartz, and solid surface are the normal hosts. Laminate is not, unless the top is a purpose built undermount laminate product, because the particleboard core swells at the cut edge. Houzer supplies a template and the mounting hardware, and there is a published undermount installation instruction sheet, so the fabricator has the hole profile and the clip layout to work from.
5) Do I need to buy separate bottom grids for both bowls of the CTO-3370?
No, both are in the box. Houzer ships two grids with this sink, BG-4090 for the 9 inch prep bowl and BG-4210 for the 21 inch main bowl, each sized to its own basin. The grids sit off the bowl floor so pans do not scuff the steel and water drains around them. The only accessory sold separately is the CB-4100 cutting board.
6) Will the Houzer CTO-3370 be noisy in an open plan kitchen?
Houzer builds this one with MegaShield insulation and a sound absorbing pad on the underside of the bowls. That deadens the ring when plates and pans hit 18 gauge steel, and it also keeps cold water lines from sweating condensation onto the cabinet floor. On an open plan or a condo where the kitchen shares a wall, the undercoating is the part that matters more than the gauge.
7) What finish is the Houzer Contempo CTO-3370 and how does it hold up to scratches?
Satin stainless, the brushed finish rather than a mirror polish. It is the only finish offered on this model. Satin is the practical choice on a working sink because the brushed grain breaks up light and hides the fine swirl marks that every stainless sink picks up over time, where a polished finish shows each one. The included bottom grids are what actually keep the bowl floor from getting scuffed by cast iron and stock pots.
