1) Will a standard garbage disposal and basket strainer fit the Houzer MD-3109 drain openings?
Both bowls take a 3-1/2 inch drain opening in the center of each bowl, which is the standard US kitchen sink size that disposals and standard basket strainers are built for. Center drains also keep the tailpieces clear of most of the cabinet space underneath.
2) What is the difference between the Houzer MD-3109-1 and MD-3109-C?
Same sink, different accessory package. The MD-3109-1 ships with the basket strainers only. The MD-3109-C adds the bottom grids (BG-3100, two of them) to protect the bowl floors. Both are satin stainless steel.
3) Can the Houzer MD-3109 be top-mounted or drop into an existing self-rimming cutout?
No. The MD-3109 is an undermount only and has no rim flange to sit on the counter, so it needs a solid surface top (stone, quartz, solid surface) with a finished cutout. If you are replacing a drop-in on laminate, this is not a swap.
4) Is the Houzer MD-3109 heavy enough gauge for a rental or commercial kitchenette?
It's 18 gauge T-304 stainless, which is the grade and thickness most specifiers use for residential and light commercial work. Lighter 20 and 22 gauge bowls oil-can and dent under heavy use; 18 gauge holds up better in a multi-family or hospitality turn.
5) Does the Houzer MD-3109 come with mounting clips and a cutout template?
Yes, both. Mounting hardware and a template ship in the box along with installation instructions, so your fabricator has the cutout profile and you have the clips for the underside of the stone. Plan the cutout for an undermount reveal before the top is templated.
6) Does the Houzer MD-3109 have a faucet hole, and where does the faucet go?
Undermount sinks like the MD-3109 have no deck holes. The faucet and any accessory like a soap dispenser or air switch gets drilled in the countertop or the backsplash, so tell your fabricator the hole count and spread before the top is cut.
7) What accessory can I add to the Houzer MD-3109 later?
A cutting board, part number CB-3100, is the optional accessory sized for this sink. If you order the strainer-only version (MD-3109-1), the BG-3100 bottom grids are the other add-on worth picking up to keep pans off the bowl floor.
8) Is the Houzer MD-3109 quiet enough to install in an open-plan kitchen?
