1) Will a standard kitchen basket strainer fit the Houzer PCS-2500 sink drain?
The drain opening is 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard US kitchen sink size, so a standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainer or a garbage disposal flange fits. The drain sits at the center of the bowl, so the tailpiece drops straight down the middle of the cabinet rather than to one side. Houzer lists basket strainer 190-9180 as the matching accessory.
2) Can the Houzer Porcela PCS-2500 be installed on a laminate or tile countertop, or does it need stone?
Undermount sinks like the PCS-2500 mount to the underside of the counter, so the counter material has to have a finished, sealed cut edge, which in practice means stone, solid surface, or quartz. Standard laminate has an exposed particle core at the cut and is not an undermount substrate unless it is a purpose-built undermount laminate system. The sink ships with mounting clips, a template, and instructions, so the fabricator has the cutout profile to work from.
3) Will the Houzer PCS-2500 drop into the same cutout as my old undermount sink?
Only if the existing cutout matches. The PCS-2500 is 22-3/4 by 17-3/8 inches overall with a rectangular shape and radiused corners, so it needs a cutout sized to that reveal. If your current sink is larger in either direction, the new one will not cover the opening and the stone has to be recut or replaced. Measure the existing cutout, not the old sink's model number, before you commit.
4) Is a porcelain enamel steel sink a good choice instead of cast iron for a kitchen remodel?
Porcelain enamel over a steel core gives you the cast iron look without the weight. That matters on two counts for an undermount: the cabinet and counter carry less load, and one person can usually set it. The enamel on the Porcela series is twice fired at 1500 degrees F for a stain, chip and scratch resistant surface. If you want the mass and heat retention of true cast iron, this is not that product, but for most kitchen and multi-family replacements the steel core is the easier install.
5) How deep is the bowl on the Houzer PCS-2500 and will a large pot fit?
The bowl is 9 inches deep with an interior of 20-5/16 by 15-1/8 inches, single basin with no divider. That takes a full size sheet pan flat on the diagonal and a stock pot upright under the faucet. Nine inches is a moderate depth rather than a deep workstation bowl, so check your faucet spout height clears it comfortably.
6) What else do I need to order with the Houzer PCS-2500 to finish the install?
Mounting clips, the cutout template and instructions come in the box, so the fabricator and installer have what they need to set it. You still buy the drain assembly separately: basket strainer 190-9180 (or a disposal flange), plus the P-trap and tailpiece. Bottom grid BG-2500 is the matching sink protector rack and is optional.
7) What colors does the Houzer Porcela PCS-2500 come in?
Eight gloss colors: White, Biscuit, Black, Espresso, Navy Blue, Slate, Lemon and Mint. 8) Is the Houzer PCS-2500 quiet, or will it bang when you drop a pan in it?
A sound absorbing pad is factory applied to the underside of the bowl to cut the clatter of plates and pots. Steel bowls ring more than cast iron does, so the pad is doing real work here. For a rental or hospitality install where noise complaints travel, that pad plus the enamel surface is the tradeoff you accept for the lighter body.
