1) What drain and strainer does the Houzer PTB-1919 fireclay sink take?
It uses a standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen drain opening, so any standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainer or a garbage disposal flange will mate to it. The drain sits at the rear of the bowl, which keeps the P-trap toward the back wall and leaves usable storage space in the cabinet below.
2) Does the PTB-1919 come with the basket strainer and bottom grid, or do I order those separately?
Both ways. The PTB-1919 is sold as sink only or as a kit that adds the 190-9180 basket strainer and the BG-7070 bottom grid, and the kit versions carry a -C on the end of the part number (PTB-1919-WH-C, PTB-1919-BL-C, PTB-1919-BQ-C, PTB-1919-GR-C). On a fireclay bowl the grid is worth having, since it keeps pots off the glazed base.
3) Does the Houzer PTB-1919 include mounting clips or brackets for undermount installation?
No mounting hardware ships with it. Fireclay is heavy and is not clipped like stainless, so it needs to sit on a plywood or rail support cradle built into the cabinet and be bedded with silicone to the underside of the stone. Order your support material and adhesive with the sink. Installation instructions are provided.
4) Is the PTB-1919 deep enough to be used as a small prep or kitchen sink, not just a bar sink?
The bowl is 15-3/4 x 15-3/4 inches with a 7 inch inner depth, which is full kitchen-sink depth in a compact square footprint. It handles prep work and stacked glassware fine, but a 15-3/4 inch bowl will not take a full sheet pan or a large roasting pan, so it works better as a secondary or island prep sink than as the only sink in a kitchen.
5) What colors does the Houzer Platus PTB-1919 come in?
Four: Gloss White, Gloss Biscuit, Matte Black, and Matte Gray. Each is available either as sink only or with the strainer and grid kit, so you can match finish across several openings in a multi-unit job and still choose the accessory level per unit.
6) Will the PTB-1919 work with a laminate or butcher block counter?
It is an undermount sink, which means it is designed for a solid surface with a finished, sealed cutout edge, stone or quartz being the usual choice. Laminate is generally not suitable because the exposed particleboard core at the cutout will swell. Sealed butcher block can work if the installer seals the cutout edge thoroughly and builds a proper support frame, since no mounting hardware is supplied with the sink.
7) Where does the faucet mount on the Houzer PTB-1919?
Nowhere on the sink. Being an undermount square single bowl with no deck, the PTB-1919 has no faucet holes, so the faucet drills into the countertop or mounts to the wall. That frees you to set the hole spacing and the faucet type you want. Measure your faucet reach against the 15-3/4 inch bowl so the spout lands near the center.
8) Is the Houzer PTB-1919 code compliant for a commercial or multi-family project?
The PTB-1919 carries ICC certification, which is the listing most plan reviewers and inspectors look for on a plumbing fixture submittal. A spec sheet is available for the submittal package if your project requires one.
9) Can I run a garbage disposal on the Houzer PTB-1919 bar sink?
Yes, the 3-1/2 inch drain opening is the standard size a disposal mounting flange assembly fits. Two things to watch on this one: the drain is at the rear of the bowl, so confirm the disposal body clears the back of the cabinet and your trap arm, and the bowl is 8 inches deep on the outside, so measure your remaining height under the counter before committing to a taller unit.
10) How does fireclay hold up against stainless steel for a bar or hospitality install?
Fireclay is a glazed ceramic body fired over 20 hours at 2200 degrees F, giving a non-porous surface that resists stains, discoloration and scratching, and it will not dent the way a thin stainless bowl does. The trade-off is weight and rigidity: it needs a built support structure in the cabinet, and a hard impact from a dropped pan can chip a ceramic edge where stainless would only dimple. For high-traffic bars where appearance matters at eye level, fireclay is the finish people choose.
