Houzer PTD-4400-WH – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size sink base cabinet do I need for the Houzer PTD-4400 farmhouse sink?
Plan on a 36 inch sink base minimum. The PTD-4400 measures 33 x 20 x 10-1/8 inches overall, and as an apron front sink the front face sits proud of the cabinet, so the face frame or door stiles have to be cut away and the sink supported from below. It will not drop into a 33 inch base.
2) Does the Houzer PTD-4400 come with mounting hardware or a support frame?
No mounting hardware is included with the PTD-4400. Fireclay sinks of this size need a solid support ledge or cradle built into the cabinet, so budget for framing lumber or a steel support in your rough-in. Installation instructions do come with the sink.
3) Will a standard garbage disposal and basket strainer fit the Houzer PTD-4400 drain openings?
Both bowls have a center drain opening at 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard US kitchen sink size, so standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainers and continuous feed disposals mount without an adapter. The center drain location also means the tailpiece drops straight down rather than toward the back wall, so expect to run a horizontal arm to your existing stub-out.
4) What is the difference between the PTD-4400 part numbers ending in -C and the plain ones?
The -C numbers are the kitted versions. PTD-4400-WH-C and PTD-4400-BQ-C ship with two basket strainers (190-9180) and two bottom grids (BG-7250). PTD-4400-WH and PTD-4400-BQ are sink only, so you supply strainers and grids separately. WH is Gloss White, BQ is Gloss Biscuit.
5) Is fireclay durable enough for a rental or multi-family kitchen?
The Platus fireclay body is fired over 20 hours at 2200 degrees F and the glazed surface is non-porous, so it resists staining, discoloration and scratching better than a coated cast iron or an acrylic bowl in heavy turnover units. The trade-off is weight and brittleness: fireclay chips if something heavy is dropped in it, which is why the included BG-7250 bottom grids are worth running in a rental.
6) What colors does the Platus PTD-4400 farmhouse sink come in?
Two glaze colors: Gloss White (PTD-4400-WH) and Gloss Biscuit (PTD-4400-BQ). Both are available either sink only or kitted with strainers and grids, so you can match the Biscuit to existing cream or almond fixtures across a building without changing the configuration you order.
