1) Will the International Door Closers 231 concealed closer fit in my aluminum header?
The 231 overhead concealed closer fits a header or transom bar as small as 1-3/4 x 4 inches, so it drops into most standard aluminum storefront headers. If your header tube is smaller than that in either direction, the closer body will not fit and you need a surface applied closer instead.
2) Does the 231 concealed closer hold the door open at 105 degrees?
No. The 231 has a built-in positive back stop at 105 degrees but no hold-open, so the door stops at 105 and then closes on its own. If you want the door to stay parked open, order the 105 degree back stop version with hold-open instead. There is also a 90 degree back stop offered in both hold-open and non hold-open.
3) Which top arm do I order for a 1 inch top rail on a center pivoted door?
Two arm configurations are offered on the 231: an end loading top arm assembly for a 1 inch depth top rail, and an adjustable side loading top arm assembly for a 1/2 inch depth top rail. Measure the top rail depth of the door leaf and match it. Guess wrong and the arm will not land in the rail prep.
4) Can the IDC 231 be used on a double acting center hung door?
Yes, the 231 works on center hung doors either double or single acting. Applying a door stop to the frame is what renders the unit single acting. It is a center pivoted application closer, so the door must be hung on center pivots, not butt hinges.
