The dark grey PVC thread coupling and reducing thread coupling feature female pipe thread connections. Chemtrol® fittings connect PVC piping lengths together with solvent cementing, threading or flanging to create a highly reliable, leak-free system. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, chemical resistance guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. PVC Schedule 80 has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping. Chemtrol® PVC fittings are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Chemtrol® premium line of plastic fittings is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control fittings are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco CA02450 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are the Nibco Chemtrol 4501 Schedule 80 couplings threaded or solvent weld?
Threaded on both ends. The 4501 coupling is an F x F fitting with female NPT threads, so it screws onto male-threaded PVC or metal pipe nipples. If your run is plain-end pipe and you plan to solvent cement it, this is the wrong coupling, you want a socket (slip) Schedule 80 coupling instead.
2) What pipe sizes do the Chemtrol 4501 PVC Schedule 80 threaded couplings come in?
Straight couplings run 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 inch. There are also reducing versions that let you step down in one fitting, including 1/2 x 1/4, 3/4 x 1/2, 1 x 3/4, 1 x 1/2, 1-1/4 x 1, 1-1/4 x 3/4, 1-1/4 x 1/2, 1-1/2 x 1-1/4, 1-1/2 x 1, 1-1/2 x 3/4, 1-1/2 x 1/2, 2 x 1-1/2, 2 x 1-1/4, 2 x 1, 2 x 3/4, 2 x 1/2, 2-1/2 x 2, 2-1/2 x 1-1/2, 3 x 2-1/2, 3 x 2, 3 x 1-1/2 and 4 x 3.
3) Can I use a PVC Schedule 80 threaded coupling on a hot water line?
No. Maximum service temperature on the Chemtrol PVC Schedule 80 coupling is 140 degrees F, and PVC loses pressure rating as it heats. Domestic hot water and any heated process line above that needs CPVC or metal, not this fitting.
4) Is the Nibco Chemtrol 4501 coupling approved for potable water?
It is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, which is the potable water health effects standard, and it is listed as a lead-free application item. Typical uses are commercial plumbing, industrial process, and irrigation.
5) Can I air test a PVC Schedule 80 threaded system after assembly?
No. The instruction on Chemtrol PVC fittings is explicit: do not use or test with compressed air or other gases. Hydrostatic test with water only. This is a safety matter, not a preference, since PVC fails in a brittle mode under stored gas energy.
6) Do I need a separate bushing to go from 2 inch down to 1 inch PVC threaded pipe?
Not with this coupling. The 4501 family includes reducing couplings that make the size change inside the fitting, so a 2 inch x 1 inch female threaded coupling (CA03200) does the job in one piece, one thread joint less to seal. Reducers go as far as 3 inch x 1-1/2 inch and 4 inch x 3 inch.
7) Will a Chemtrol dark grey Schedule 80 coupling match the rest of my Schedule 80 system and fit standard Sch 80 pipe?
Yes. It is dark grey PVC, the standard color for Schedule 80, so it visually matches the rest of an industrial grey run. Threads are NPT, so it mates with any Schedule 80 male-threaded PVC pipe or nipple of the same nominal size. Note that threaded fittings carry a derated pressure compared with solvent welded joints, so size the system accordingly.
8) Is a PVC threaded coupling suitable for a buried irrigation main?
Irrigation is one of the listed system uses for the Chemtrol Schedule 80 line, and PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode in wet soil. Keep it below 140 degrees F and keep the joint accessible if you can, since threaded connections are the most likely point to need service.
