The dark grey PVC threaded tee features female pipe thread connections. Chemtrol® fittings connect PVC piping lengths together with solvent cementing, threading or flanging to create a highly reliable, leak-free system. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, chemical resistance guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. PVC Schedule 80 has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping. Chemtrol® PVC fittings are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Chemtrol® premium line of plastic fittings is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control fittings are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco CA09850 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco 4512-3-3 PVC tee thread onto my existing schedule 80 pipe, or does it need solvent cement?
All three outlets on the 4512-3-3 tee are female NPT threads (F x F x F), so it screws onto male threaded pipe or nipples with tape or dope. No cement, no primer. If your run is plain cut pipe with no threads, you either need male adapters at the tee, or you should use a socket (solvent weld) tee instead. Sizes run 1/4 inch through 4 inch.
2) What is the temperature limit on a Chemtrol PVC schedule 80 threaded tee?
140 degrees F maximum service temperature. That rules it out for hot water distribution and for any process line that spikes above it. PVC also loses pressure capacity as it warms, so a line running near the top of that range is not carrying its cold-water rating. For hot service you need CPVC or metal, not this tee.
3) Can I use a PVC schedule 80 tee on a compressed air line?
No. Chemtrol PVC fittings are not to be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. That includes pressure testing the assembled system with air. PVC fails brittle and stores energy when it holds gas, so testing and service are both hydrostatic only.
4) Is the Nibco 4512 tee approved for potable water?
The tee is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it is a lead-free application item, which is what a plumbing inspector looks for on a potable line. It also carries ASTM D2467, the standard for PVC schedule 80 socket-type fittings. Rated systems listed include commercial plumbing, industrial and irrigation.
5) What size Nibco Chemtrol threaded tee do I order for a 1-1/2 inch line, and what is the part number?
Order by nominal pipe size and the part number follows: 1/4 inch is CA09700, 1/2 inch CA09750, 3/4 inch CA09800, 1 inch CA09850, 1-1/4 inch CA09900, 1-1/2 inch CA09950, 2 inch CA10000, 2-1/2 inch CA10050, 3 inch CA10100, and 4 inch CA10150. So a 1-1/2 inch line takes CA09950.
6) Will a PVC tee corrode or scale in a chemical feed line the way a metal fitting does?
PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, which is the reason these get specified for chemical and industrial service over steel or brass. What it will not tolerate is every chemical: PVC has a defined resistance profile, so match the fluid against the Chemtrol chemical resistance guide before committing the line. The fittings are also maintenance-free and light enough to hang without the support a metal run needs.
7) Do I need thread sealant on a PVC threaded tee, and can I tighten it like a steel fitting?
Threaded PVC needs a sealant rated for plastic, and it is hand tight plus one to two turns with a strap wrench, not a pipe wrench cranked down. Over-torque splits the female socket, and the female outlets on this tee are the part that takes the hoop stress. Tapered pipe dope or PTFE tape suits it; avoid sealants that attack PVC. Chemtrol publishes technical data sheets and installation literature covering the joint procedure.
