The dark grey PVC socket x thread tee features female sockets and a female pipe thread. Chemtrol® fittings connect PVC piping lengths together with solvent cementing, threading or flanging to create a highly reliable, leak-free system. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, chemical resistance guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. PVC Schedule 80 has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping. Chemtrol® PVC fittings are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Chemtrol® premium line of plastic fittings is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control fittings are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco CA10165 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco 4512 PVC Schedule 80 tee thread onto metal pipe or a threaded nipple?
One branch will. The 4512 is an S x S x F tee: two female solvent-weld sockets on the run and a female NPT thread on the branch, so the threaded outlet takes any male NPT nipple or male-threaded fitting of the matching size. The two socket ends are solvent-cemented to Schedule 80 PVC pipe, not threaded. If you need thread on the run instead of the branch, this is not the configuration.
2) Can I use a PVC Schedule 80 tee on a hot water line?
Not on hot water. Maximum service temperature on this PVC tee is 140 degrees F, which rules out domestic hot water and any heated process line running above that. It's built for cold water and chemical service, commercial plumbing, industrial process, and irrigation. For hot lines you need CPVC or metal, not PVC.
3) Is the Nibco 4512 tee approved for potable water?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, the two listings inspectors look for on potable water piping components, and it is a lead-free application fitting. That covers the drinking water side of a commercial or institutional system.
4) Can I use this PVC tee on a compressed air line?
No. Do not use or test PVC fittings with compressed air or other gases, that instruction is on the product for a reason, PVC fails brittle and stored gas energy makes the failure violent. Water and liquid chemical service only, and pressure test with liquid, not air.
5) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4512 socket x thread tee come in?
Six straight-size runs: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. It's a straight-size tee, so the branch matches the run, a 1 inch (part CA10165) is 1 x 1 x 1 FPT. There's no reducing configuration in the 4512, if you need to drop the branch size you'd tee full size and reduce with a bushing.
6) Does the ASTM D2467 marking on a PVC tee matter for my inspection?
It's the spec for PVC Schedule 80 socket-type fittings, and it's what an engineer or inspector is checking when the drawing calls for Sch 80 socket fittings. The 4512 is made to it. If your submittal sheet cites D2467, this fitting satisfies that line.
7) What do I need to buy besides the tee to make up the joints?
Two of the three connections are solvent-weld, so you need PVC primer and Schedule 80 solvent cement for those, they're not supplied with the fitting. The FPT branch takes thread sealant or PTFE tape, and it gets hand-tight plus a turn or two with a strap wrench, never a pipe wrench on plastic thread. Nothing is included in the box beyond the fitting itself.
8) Is this the right tee for a drip or landscape irrigation manifold?
It works well there. Irrigation is one of the listed uses, and the S x S x FPT arrangement is what you want at a manifold, glue the tee into the mainline run and thread a valve, riser or adapter into the branch without cementing it, so that branch can be broken loose later for service. PVC won't rust, scale, pit or corrode buried in a valve box.
9) Is Chemtrol the same thing as Nibco for PVC fittings?
Chemtrol is a Nibco brand, so a Chemtrol-marked PVC fitting and a Nibco one come from the same house. If your spec or your existing system says Chemtrol and you're looking at Nibco 4512, you're in the right family.
