1) What is the low heel inlet on a Nibco 4861-LH elbow actually for?
The low heel inlet is a third hub cast into the heel of the 90 degree bend, low on the outside radius, so you can bring a second drain line into the elbow without adding a separate fitting. Typical use is picking up a lavatory or washer line into a stack turn, or tying a branch into a closet bend run. All three openings are hub (socket) type for solvent cement, and the heel inlet is a reducing size: 3 x 3 x 2 inch, 3 x 3 x 1-1/2 inch, or 4 x 4 x 2 inch.
2) Does the Nibco 4861-LH glue to standard Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe?
Yes. It is a Schedule 40 PVC fitting with socket hubs, joined by solvent cementing to standard PVC DWV pipe of the matching nominal size. No threads, no gaskets, no transition adapter needed as long as the pipe is PVC. It will not bond to ABS pipe with standard PVC cement, so on an ABS system you need a proper transition.

A sanitary tee or wye is the fitting for a branch entering a straight run with no turn. If the branch is the vent rather than a drain, a high heel (vent) inlet version is the one to specify; the 4861-LH is the low heel, drain-side inlet.
5) What Nibco part number do I order for a 3 x 3 x 2 heel inlet 90?
