The PVC DWV P-Trap features a union joint and a hub x slip joint with chrome nut connection. The P-Trap provides a water seal so that wastewater will automatically be trapped in the arc of the configuration, thereby preventing unwanted gases from entering the household environment. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K600370 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What sizes does the Nibco 4892-C PVC P-trap come in?
Two configurations: a straight 1-1/2 inch (MPN K600370) and a 1-1/2 by 1-1/4 inch reducing version (MPN K600400). The reducing version is what you want when the trap arm run is 1-1/2 inch DWV but the tailpiece coming down from the fixture is 1-1/4 inch, which is common on older lavatories.
2) How does the Nibco 4892-C P-trap connect on each end?
Hub on one side, slip joint with a chrome nut on the other. The hub end is solvent cemented to Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe or fitting; the slip joint end takes the fixture tailpiece and tightens down with the nut, no cement. So one end is permanent and one end is serviceable.
3) Is the Nibco 4892-C approved for commercial work or residential only?
Both. It is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, meets ASTM D2665 and D3311, is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries NSF U.P. certification for potable-adjacent drainage use, which is what most inspectors and specs ask for on DWV.
4) Can I use this PVC trap on a dishwasher or other hot water discharge?
Maximum service temperature is 140 degrees F. Normal fixture drainage and dishwasher discharge sit under that, but a line carrying sustained higher-temperature waste needs a different material. Also, never test or use this trap with compressed air or other gases.
5) What does the union joint on this P-trap actually do for me?
The union joint lets you break the trap apart at the bend without cutting pipe, so you can clear a stoppage, retrieve something dropped down the drain, or pull the trap for service and put it back. A one-piece cemented trap has to be sawn out.
6) Is this trap only for drain lines, or can it go on a vent or supply line?
Drain, waste and vent only. It is a DWV fitting and is not for pressure or water supply piping. The trap's job is holding a water seal in the bend so sewer gas cannot come back up through the fixture.
7) Will a PVC P-trap corrode or rust like a metal trap under a sink?
No. PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it resists chemicals, which is why it holds up under sinks that see cleaners and drain chemicals. Metal traps in the same location are the usual thing being replaced.
8) What color is the Nibco 4892-C trap, and will it match my existing PVC drain lines?
White PVC, so it matches standard white Schedule 40 PVC DWV. The visible nut at the slip joint is chrome. If your existing under-sink piping is black ABS, that is a different material and should not be solvent cemented to PVC without the correct transition method.
