Nibco CB06365 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What kind of connections does the Nibco 5107-3 CPVC elbow have on each end?
One end is a female socket for solvent cement, the other is female NPT thread. That is the S x F (NPT) configuration, so you solvent weld CPVC pipe into the socket side and thread a male NPT nipple, valve or transition fitting into the other. It turns the line 90 degrees (a quarter bend).
2) Can I use a Schedule 80 CPVC elbow on a hot water line, and what temperature can it take?
Maximum service temperature is 210 F, which is why CPVC is used for hot water and hot process lines where PVC will not hold up. Keep in mind pressure rating falls as temperature rises, so size the system to the manufacturer's temperature/pressure derating data for the run you are building.
3) Is this CPVC elbow approved for potable water?
It is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and the fitting is listed lead-free, so it is used on commercial potable plumbing as well as industrial and irrigation lines. It also meets ASTM F439 for Schedule 80 CPVC socket fittings.
4) Will this elbow work on a compressed air line?
No. This CPVC fitting must not be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. It is for liquid service only, and pressure testing should be done hydrostatically.
5) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 5107-3 90-degree CPVC elbow come in?
Six sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. Both ends are the same nominal size (straight size), so a 1 inch fitting takes 1 inch Schedule 80 CPVC pipe in the socket and a 1 inch male NPT on the threaded side.
6) Should I use a socket x thread elbow or a socket x socket one?
Go socket x thread when the turn has to land on a threaded component: a male-threaded valve, a pump port, a gauge nipple, or a point you want to be able to break apart later. If both sides are CPVC pipe being solvent cemented, use a socket x socket elbow instead, since a solvent joint is stronger and leaves no thread to seal. Thread only male into the female NPT side, using an approved thread sealant, and do not overtighten plastic threads.
7) Will a light grey CPVC fitting match the Schedule 80 pipe already on my system?
The Corzan CPVC body is light grey, the standard color for Schedule 80 CPVC, so it blends with existing grey Sch 80 CPVC runs. If your existing lines are dark grey Sch 80 PVC or white Sch 40 PVC, that is a different material and this fitting is not the match, even where the outside diameters line up.
8) What part number do I order for a 1-1/2 inch Nibco 5107-3 elbow?
