The reducing coupling features solder cups. The fitting provides a means of connecting larger size tube to smaller size tube. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco 9002500 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco 600 reducing coupling let me connect 3/4 inch copper tube to 1/2 inch?
Yes. The Nibco 600 is a reducing coupling with solder cups on both ends (C x C), made to join a larger copper tube to a smaller one, and 3/4 inch x 1/2 inch is one of the sizes made. The reductions run from 1/8 inch x 3/16 inch all the way up to 8 inch x 6 inch, so most common step-downs on a domestic water or heating line are covered.
2) What is the difference between the Wrot and Cleaned and Bagged versions of the Nibco 600 coupling?
Both are the same wrot copper reducing coupling. The Cleaned and Bagged option is processed and sealed for oxygen and medical gas service, which is why the fitting is listed for med-gas work under NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Gas and Vacuum Systems and CGA Pamphlet G4.1. If you are running medical gas or clean compressed air, order Cleaned and Bagged. For ordinary plumbing, heating or HVAC, the plain wrot version is what you want.
3) Is the Nibco 600 copper coupling lead free and approved for potable water?
It is lead-free and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, the standards that govern drinking water contact and lead content. It is also dezincification resistant. That covers it for potable water in both residential and commercial plumbing.
4) What copper alloy is the Nibco 600 reducing coupling made from, and does it meet ASME B16.22?
Wrot copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200. Material and workmanship meet ASME B16.22, and material, workmanship and dimensions meet MSS SP-104. The 5 inch through 8 inch sizes are covered by MSS SP-109 instead. That is the spec line most engineers are looking for on a submittal.
5) Can I use this Nibco copper reducing coupling on a fire protection or compressed air line?
Yes. Listed system uses include fire protection, compressed air, industrial, irrigation, heating and HVAC alongside residential and commercial plumbing. Select diameters are also UL 207 Recognized to 700 PSI. Confirm the diameter you need carries that recognition if the pressure rating is what your spec hangs on.
6) Do I need a solder fitting or a press fitting here, and what does C x C mean on the Nibco 600?
C x C means both ends are solder cups that slip over copper tube and get soldered or brazed. This is a sweat fitting, not a press or threaded one, so you need a torch, flux and solder to make the joint. The advantage is that the cup slips over the tube rather than butting it, so the joint takes the same working pressure as the line.
7) What is the largest reduction I can make in a single Nibco 600 coupling?
The biggest jump available in one fitting is 2 inch x 1/2 inch on the small side of the range and 8 inch x 2-1/2 inch at the large end. Other wide steps include 1-1/2 inch x 1/2 inch, 4 inch x 2 inch and 6 inch x 2 inch. If the reduction you need is not in the list, you will have to stack two couplings or use a reducing tee or bushing instead.
8) Is the Nibco 600 reducing coupling a good fit for a LEED or sustainable building project?
Copper's reusability makes it suitable for sustainable projects, and Nibco makes these fittings in an ISO 9001 certified facility. The fitting is lead-free and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372 certified, which is generally what a green building spec is asking for on potable water components.
9) Which Nibco 600 sizes cover small tubing runs under 1/2 inch?
Small-tube reductions are available: 1/8 inch x 3/16 inch, 1/4 inch x 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch x 5/16 inch, 3/8 inch x 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch x 1/8 inch, 1/2 inch x 1/8 inch, 1/2 inch x 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch x 3/8 inch. Those are the sizes that come up on refrigeration and control tubing rather than main water lines.
