Nibco 9130000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does C x Ftg x C mean on the Nibco 611-2 tee?
It describes the three ends. The run has one solder cup (C) that slips over the outside of the pipe and one fitting/street end (Ftg) that is sized to slip INTO another fitting's cup. The branch is a solder cup. So the 611-2 lets you break into a continuous copper line and take a branch off without adding a coupling on the street side.
2) Is the Nibco 611-2 copper tee lead-free and OK for drinking water?
Yes. The wrot copper tee is lead-free and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, the drinking water standards, and it's dezincification resistant. Material is ASTM B75 alloy C12200 copper.
3) Do I need a coupling to join this tee to another fitting?
No, not on the Ftg end. The fitting/street end is made to the same outside dimension as copper tube, so it drops straight into the cup of an adjacent fitting, valve or elbow. Use the two cup ends for tube, and the street end where you're mating fitting to fitting.
4) What sizes does the Nibco 611-2 street tee come in?
Two sizes: 1/2 inch (MPN 9130000) and 3/4 inch (MPN 9130100). Both are straight size, meaning the branch matches the run, so a 1/2 inch tee is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2.
5) Which standards do Nibco wrot copper solder fittings meet for spec submittals?
Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.22, and material, workmanship and dimensions are per MSS SP-104. The fittings are made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. That's usually what an engineer or inspector wants to see on a copper fitting submittal.
6) Can I use this copper street tee on anything besides potable water?
Yes. Listed system uses include residential and commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, HVAC, compressed air, fire protection, irrigation, medical gas and industrial piping. Note that med-gas work has its own brazing and cleanliness requirements, so follow the applicable installation procedure for that system.
7) Is the Nibco 611-2 a press fitting or does it have to be soldered?
It's a solder fitting, not press and not threaded. All three ends are made up with solder or braze, so plan on flux, a torch and proper joint prep. If you need a no-flame connection, a press-end copper tee is the different product to look for.
8) Is a wrot copper tee different from a cast copper tee?
Yes. The 611-2 is wrot copper, formed from ASTM B75 C12200 tube stock, which gives thinner, more uniform walls and a tighter cup than a cast bronze or cast copper fitting. For standard copper tube pressure systems, wrot is what most plumbers use; cast fittings usually turn up where a heavier body or threaded outlet is needed.
