The 90-degree elbow features a solder cup, female NPT threads and mounting ears. The fitting provides a means of changing the pipeline direction 90 degrees and adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. The ears allow the fitting to be secured to a wall support using a nail or screw. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B067850 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What do the two ends of the Nibco 707-3-5-A drop ear elbow connect to?
One end is a solder cup that slips over copper tube, and the other is female NPT thread. So you solder on the copper side and thread in a nipple, stub-out, or shower arm on the other. The connection is listed as C x F (NPT), and the fitting turns the line 90 degrees (1/4 bend).
2) Can I use this Nibco Hy-Set elbow on potable water in the US?
No. The 707-3-5-A is a cast bronze fitting to ASTM B584 Alloy C84400, and its use in U.S. drinking water applications has been prohibited since January 3, 2014. For a potable shower-arm or faucet stub-out you need a lead-free drop ear ell instead. This one is for non-potable service.
3) What are the ears on this drop ear elbow for?
The two mounting ears are drilled so the fitting can be nailed or screwed to wall blocking or a backer board. That holds the elbow rigid so the threaded outlet stays put when someone wrenches a shower arm or hose bibb into it, instead of loading the solder joint.
4) What pipe size does the Nibco 707-3-5-A come in?
It's a 1/2 inch straight-size fitting, meaning a 1/2 inch solder cup and 1/2 inch female NPT, so there's no reduction through the bend. Ordering reference is MPN B067850.
5) What systems is this Nibco bronze drop ear elbow used on?
Service listed covers commercial and residential plumbing, fire protection, heating, HVAC, industrial, and irrigation. The potable-water restriction rules out US drinking water lines, so in practice it lands on hydronic heating, HVAC, irrigation, and industrial non-potable branches.
6) Is a bronze drop ear ell better than a wrought copper one for a threaded outlet?
For a threaded branch that will be wrenched on, cast bronze is the usual choice: the 707-3-5-A is cast bronze per ASTM B584 C84400, which gives a thicker, stronger thread section than thin-wall wrought copper, and it's dezincification resistant. Wrought copper fittings are the cheaper option where both ends are solder and nothing threads in.
7) Does the Nibco 707-3-5-A meet a solder fitting standard?
Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.18, the standard for cast copper alloy solder joint pressure fittings. The casting alloy is ASTM B584 C84400.
