The 90-degree union elbow features a solder cup, male NPT thread and union connection. The fitting provides a means of changing the pipeline direction 90 degrees, as well as adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. The union connection allows for the line to be repaired without damage. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B07290L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What connections does the Nibco 707-4-6-LF union elbow have on each end?
One end is a solder cup for copper tube (C), the other is a male NPT thread (M), and the elbow carries a union nut in the body. So it turns the line 90 degrees and transitions from a sweat connection to a threaded one in a single fitting.
2) Is this Nibco union elbow lead-free and approved for potable water?
It is a lead-free fitting made from Silicon Performance Bronze alloy and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, which are the potable water and lead content standards. It is also dezincification resistant, so it holds up in aggressive water. Design conforms to ASME B16.18.
3) Will the male NPT end of this elbow thread into a standard iron pipe or valve port?
Yes. The threaded end is male NPT in the same nominal size as the solder cup, so a 3/4 inch elbow (B07285L) threads into any 3/4 inch female NPT port on a valve, pump body, tank or black iron nipple. Use an approved thread sealant; NPT is a tapered thread that seals on the threads, not a gasket.
4) What copper tube sizes does the Nibco 707 union elbow come in?
Four sizes: 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch. The part numbers run B07275L for 3/8 inch, B07280L for 1/2 inch, B07285L for 3/4 inch and B07290L for 1 inch. All are straight size, meaning the solder cup and the male thread match the same nominal size.
5) Why use a union elbow instead of a plain 90-degree elbow and a separate union?
The union built into the 707 lets you break the joint at the elbow to pull a valve, pump or section of line without cutting copper or unsweating a fitting. A plain elbow plus a separate union does the same job in two fittings and two more joints; this does it in one, which matters in tight mechanical rooms and at equipment connections.
6) Can I use this union elbow on heating and HVAC lines, or is it potable water only?
Nibco lists the 707 union elbow for commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, fire protection, industrial and irrigation service. It is a solder pressure fitting, so it goes on copper pressure tube systems rather than DWV.
7) How do I solder a union elbow without wrecking the union seat?
Break the union apart first and sweat only the half that carries the solder cup. Heating the assembled fitting can damage the machined union seat. Nibco publishes copper fitting installation instructions covering joint prep, flux and heat for these fittings.
