1) What does a Nibco 708-LF flanged sink elbow connect to on each end?
The 708-LF is a C x F elbow: one end is a solder cup that sweats onto copper tube, the other is a female NPT threaded flange. So it solders into the copper line and threads onto a male NPT nipple or shank, turning the run 90 degrees at the connection point.
2) Will the Nibco 708-LF fit 1/2 inch copper?
Yes, 1/2 inch is the size the 708-LF is built in, model BF8105L. It is a straight size fitting, so the solder cup and the female NPT thread are both 1/2 inch, no reducing across the elbow.
3) Is the Nibco 708-LF sink elbow lead free and OK for potable water?

The flange gives a flat bearing face at the female NPT thread, so the elbow can seat against a wall or a fixture surface where a plain C x C elbow would just float in the line and need a separate adapter to pick up threads. Use the plain solder 90 for direction changes inside the run; use the 708-LF where the copper has to turn and hand off to a threaded fixture connection at the sink.
6) Can I thread the 708-LF onto a faucet shank or does it need a male fitting?
The threaded side is female NPT, so it accepts a male NPT thread. Pair it with a male nipple, a male adapter, or a male-threaded fixture shank. If what you are connecting to is also female, you need a close nipple between them.
7) Do I solder or thread the Nibco 708-LF first during install?
Solder the copper cup first, before the threaded joint is made up, so torch heat is nowhere near tape or pipe dope. The cup end sweats like any pressure fitting; the female NPT side gets sealant and is made up wrench tight afterward. Nibco publishes copper fittings installation instructions for the joint prep and heating sequence.
8) Can the 708-LF flanged sink elbow be used on a drain line?
No. This is a solder pressure elbow for copper water tube, not a DWV fitting. Drain, waste and vent work needs DWV-pattern copper or plastic fittings with the correct wall and socket depth. Keep the 708-LF on the supply side.
