Nibco NHAW00M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco F-667-O gate valve bolt up to Class 250 cast iron flanges?
Yes. The F-667-O is built with Class 250 flanged end connections, so it mates to a Class 250 cast iron flange bolt pattern. It will not line up with a Class 125 flange drilling, so check the mating flange class on the line before you order. Sizes run 2, 2-1/2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 inch.
2) Can I use this Nibco iron gate valve on a potable water line?
No. Use of the F-667-O in U.S. drinking water applications is prohibited after January 3, 2014. Put it on HVAC, steam, gas, fire protection and general utility service instead, and specify a lead-free rated valve for anything potable.
3) Is the Nibco F-667-O acceptable for a fire protection riser in New York City?
It is approved by the New York City BSA under 143-69-SA at 350 psi non-shock cold water, and fire protection is listed among its applications. Confirm the approval covers the specific service your AHJ is reviewing.
4) Why choose an outside screw and yoke gate valve over a rising stem inside screw type?
With OS&Y, the stem threads sit outside the flow path, so they stay clear of the line media and the yoke gives you a visible open/closed indication from across the mechanical room. That is why OS&Y is the standard call on fire protection risers and steam service. The F-667-O is OS&Y with a bolted bonnet, which means the bonnet can be unbolted for stem and wedge service in place rather than cutting the valve out.
5) What are the internal trim materials on this cast iron gate valve?
Iron body bronze mounted (IBBM): cast iron body with bronze seating. The seat seal material is bronze and the closure is a solid wedge, which handles throttling shock and higher differential pressure better than a flexible or split wedge in steam service.
6) Does the Nibco F-667-O meet MSS SP-70 for iron gate valves?
Yes, the F-667-O conforms to MSS SP-70, the standard engineers typically cite on cast iron gate valve submittals.
7) Which Nibco part number do I order for a 6 inch Class 250 flanged OS&Y gate valve?
The 6 inch F-667-O carries MPN NHAW00K. Other sizes in the family: 2 inch NHAW00D, 2-1/2 inch NHAW00E, 3 inch NHAW00F, 4 inch NHAW00H, 5 inch NHAW00J, 8 inch NHAW00L, 10 inch NHAW00M. Pipe size is the only thing you specify.
8) Can this gate valve be used to throttle flow in a chilled water or process line?
Gate valves are isolation devices, not throttling devices. Run the F-667-O fully open or fully closed; partial opening wears the solid wedge and seats. For modulating duty on the same Class 250 flanged line, use a globe or butterfly valve. The F-667-O suits commercial plumbing, heating, HVAC, industrial and pulp and paper isolation service.
