The NIBCO® ductile iron butterfly valve provides ease of operation with quarter-turn (90 degrees) open to close. The unique molded-in Buna-N seat liner with stainless steel disc is recommended for chemical applications the liner compatibility will permit. With the internal stem/disc geometric drive design there is no need for pins or bolts that may create leak paths or turbulence in the waterway. An extended neck allows for insulation up to 2 inches. 1) Can a lug body butterfly valve like the Nibco LD-3122 be used for dead-end service or to isolate one side of a line?
Lug body is the reason people pick this one. The LD-3122 has a lug end connection, meaning the body is drilled and tapped so each flange bolts to the valve independently. That lets you remove downstream piping or equipment with the valve holding the line, which a wafer body cannot do. The valve is rated 250 PSI. 2) Will the Nibco LD-3122 butterfly valve handle steam or high temperature hot water?
No. The LD-3122 is not recommended for steam service, and maximum service temperature is 180 degrees F. That covers chilled water, condenser water and standard hydronic heating loops, but medium and high temperature hot water systems running above 180F need a different valve and a different seat material. The seat here is Buna-N nitrile rubber, which is what sets that ceiling.
3) Does this butterfly valve come with a handle, or do I have to order the operator separately?
Operator is a choice, not a given. The LD-3122 series is offered with bare stem, infinite position plate and lock, lever lock, manual gear operator, and pneumatic or electric automation. Decide by size and duty: lever lock for hand operation on smaller lines, gear operator where throttling or higher torque is involved, bare stem when you are mounting your own actuator. Specify it when you order.
4) What size Nibco LD-3122 lug butterfly valve is offered and what pipe does it bolt to?
