The unique FKM fluoroelastomer molded-in seat liner with stainless steel disc is recommended for chemical applications the liner compatibility will permit. With the internal stem/disc geometric drive design there is no need for pins or bolts that may create leak paths or turbulence in the waterway. An extended neck allows for insulation up to 2 inches. 1) Can the Nibco LD-3222 butterfly valve be used for dead-end service or to isolate one side of a line?
Yes. The LD-3222 is a lug body valve, which means it bolts independently to the flanges on each side. You can unbolt downstream piping and service it while the valve holds pressure on the upstream side. A wafer body cannot do that, since it is sandwiched between two flanges and needs both to stay in place.
2) Is the FKM seat on the Nibco LD-3222 the right choice, or should I use an EPDM-seated butterfly valve?
The FKM fluoroelastomer molded-in seat liner is the chemical-service option. Nibco recommends it for chemical applications the liner compatibility will permit, and it handles service up to 300 degrees F at 250 psi. It is not recommended for steam. For ordinary chilled water, hot water and general HVAC duty, an EPDM-seated ductile iron butterfly valve is the usual pick. Check the chemical resistance data for your specific media before committing to FKM.
3) Does the Nibco LD-3222 come with a handle, or do I have to order the operator separately?
The operator is a separate selection. The LD-3222 body accepts bare stem, infinite position plate and lock, lever lock, manual gear operator, and pneumatic or electric actuation. Decide before ordering: a 3 inch valve is commonly hand-lever operated, but gear operators are used where throttling or higher differential pressure makes a lever awkward.
4) What standards does the Nibco LD-3222 butterfly valve meet for a spec submittal?
