Nibco NF2K00A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Nibco PF-211-Y press globe valve be used on potable drinking water lines?
No. The PF-211-Y is prohibited from use in U.S. drinking water applications after January 3, 2014. It's intended for closed and non-potable service: hydronic heating, HVAC, automatic sprinkler systems, industrial, irrigation, and non-potable commercial or residential plumbing lines. If the line feeds fixtures people drink from, you need a lead-free rated valve instead.
2) What size copper pipe does the Nibco PF-211-Y globe valve connect to, and what kind of joint is it?
Both ends are female press, so the valve slips over copper tube and is crimped with a press tool. No solder, no threading. Sizes run 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch, ordered as NF2K006 through NF2K00D. When the crimp is correct a raised "N" witness mark shows on the fitting, which is how an inspector confirms the joint was pressed.
3) What are the pressure and temperature limits on the Nibco PF-211-Y bronze globe valve?
200 psi (13.8 bar) non-shock cold working pressure, with a maximum service temperature of 250 degrees F. That covers typical hydronic heating loops and standard commercial water service. It is a cold working pressure rating, so it does not carry a steam rating.
4) Can the seat and disc on the Nibco PF-211-Y be replaced instead of cutting the valve out?
Yes. The seat and disc are renewable, and the screw-in bonnet comes off for service, so a worn disc can be changed in place rather than replacing the whole valve. That matters here because the body is pressed onto the tube, not threaded, so pulling the valve means cutting pipe. The seat seal is PTFE.
5) Should I use a globe valve or a ball valve for throttling flow?
Use the globe valve. The PF-211-Y is built to throttle: the disc seats against flow so you can hold a partial opening and set a balanced flow rate without chattering or wire-drawing a ball seat. A ball valve is a quarter-turn on/off device and wears quickly when it is left half open. Where you just need isolation, a ball valve is faster to operate; where you need to regulate, this is the right body style.
6) Will a non-rising stem globe valve fit in a tight chase or behind an access panel?
That's the advantage of the PF-211-Y. The stem does not rise as the valve opens, so the handwheel height stays the same through the full travel and you only need clearance for the closed dimension. Useful in chases, ceiling spaces, and behind access doors where a rising stem would foul framing. You still need room to swing the handwheel through multiple turns.
7) Does the Nibco PF-211-Y meet a valve standard I can put on a submittal?
It conforms to MSS SP-80, the standard covering bronze gate, globe, angle and check valves. Body material is bronze and it is dezincification resistant, which is what you want on hydronic and irrigation water with aggressive chemistry.
8) Do I need any special tooling to install the Nibco PF-211-Y press globe valve?
Yes, a press tool with the correct jaw or chain for the tube size.
