The NIBCO® lug type butterfly valve is ideal for commercial and some light industrial process applications, including HVAC and vacuum services, in addition to hot and cold potable water. The ductile iron butterfly valve provides ease of operation with quarter-turn (90 degrees) open to close. With the internal stem/disc geometric drive design, there is no need for pins or bolts that may create leak paths or turbulence in the waterway. An extended neck allows for insulation up to 2 inches. 1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco PFD-2000 press butterfly valve come in?
Three sizes: 2-1/2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch, each available with either a lever-lock handle or a gear operator. Lever-lock models are NLR100E (2-1/2"), NLR100F (3") and NLR100H (4"); the gear operated versions are NLR110E, NLR110F and NLR110H.
2) Do I need to solder or thread the PFD-2000 butterfly valve into the line?
No. Both ends are female press connections, so the valve is crimped onto the pipe with a press tool instead of soldered, grooved or threaded. No flame on the job, and when the crimp is made correctly an "N" witness mark shows on the fitting so you can verify it visually.
3) Can the Nibco PFD-2000 be used on potable water, or is it HVAC only?
Both. The ductile iron body with molded-in EPDM seat and aluminum bronze disc is intended for hot and cold potable water as well as HVAC and vacuum service, and the valve is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, irrigation, industrial and automatic sprinkler systems.
4) What pressure and temperature can this press butterfly valve take?
200 psi (13.8 bar) non-shock cold working pressure, with a maximum service temperature of 250 degrees F. That covers typical chilled water, condenser water and hot water heating loops.
5) Should I pick the lever handle or the gear operator on a 4 inch butterfly valve?
The lever-lock gives you a quick quarter-turn, 90 degrees open to close, and is the usual choice where the valve is reachable and gets operated by hand. The gear operator takes more turns but reduces the effort, which is what most crews want on a 4 inch line or where the valve sits overhead and gets throttled rather than just shut off. Both are offered in all three sizes, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 inch.
6) Can I insulate the pipe without burying the valve handle?
Yes. The PFD-2000 has an extended neck that clears insulation up to 2 inches thick, so chilled water lines can be insulated continuously without the operator being swallowed by the jacket.
7) Which standards does the Nibco PFD-2000 butterfly valve meet?
