1) Can the Nibco SI-8 gate valve be used on potable drinking water lines?
No. The SI-8 is a brass gate valve whose use in U.S. drinking water applications is prohibited after January 3, 2014. It is meant for non-potable service such as irrigation, where the solid wedge, integral seats and bi-directional flow suit it. For a potable line you need a lead-free rated valve instead.
2) What kind of pipe connection does the Nibco SI-8 gate valve take?
Female solder cups on both ends, so it sweats directly onto copper tube. There are no threads, no unions and no adapters in the box. If your line is threaded iron or PEX you will need adapters, or a threaded-end gate valve instead.
