1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco T45BC-V true union ball check valve come in?
The T45BC-V is offered in 3 inch and 4 inch, ordered as MPN MA800AF for the 3 inch and MA800AH for the 4 inch. Both are PVC Schedule 80 with female NPT threaded ends, so they thread straight onto matching threaded PVC or metal nipples of the same size.
2) Is this check valve threaded or socket solvent weld?
Threaded. The T45BC-V uses female NPT end connections, so it goes in with threaded joints rather than solvent cement. That matters if you ever want to break the valve out: combined with the true union body, you can unthread the unions and lift the valve and its internals out without cutting pipe. If your line is solvent welded socket PVC, you will need threaded adapters at each side.
3) What pressure and temperature can a PVC Schedule 80 ball check valve like the T45BC-V handle?
Rated 150 psi at 73 F with water, non-shock, and a maximum service temperature of 140 F. PVC loses pressure capability as temperature climbs, so hot process lines are outside its range. It is a liquid-service valve only, do not use it or pressure test it with compressed air or other gases.
4) Can I use this valve on potable water in a commercial building?
Yes. The T45BC-V is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and meets ASTM F1970. It is listed as a lead-free application valve, which is what most jurisdictions require for potable service. It is also used in industrial and irrigation lines.
5) Why choose the FKM seal version of the Nibco T45BC-V instead of EPDM?
The V suffix means FKM fluoroelastomer seats and O-rings. FKM is the choice for chemical feed and many oil-bearing or aggressive media where EPDM swells. If your system runs on media that attack fluoroelastomers, an EPDM-sealed version of the same true union ball check is the alternative. Note the manufacturer's plastics incompatibility warning covering POE and similar lubricants before committing.
6) Does a ball check valve need to be installed in a particular orientation?
Yes, orientation matters with a ball check. The T45BC-V relies on a free ball seating against the seat to stop reverse flow, so it must be installed with the flow arrow in the direction of flow. In vertical lines it works with flow upward so gravity helps return the ball to the seat. For a swing or spring-loaded pattern you would need a different check style.
7) Can I service this check valve without cutting the pipe out?
That is the point of the true union body. The union nuts back off and the valve plus its internal components lift out of the line for cleaning or replacement of the ball and seat, leaving the threaded end connectors in the piping. On a chemical feed or irrigation header that is the difference between a ten minute service call and a repipe.
8) What color is the Chemtrol PVC Schedule 80 valve body, and will it match my existing Sch 80 pipe?
