Thomas & Betts SCG-1001 Non Armoured Cable Gland

The SCG-1001 clamps cable from 12 to 20 mm outside diameter. Measure the cable jacket OD, not the conductor bundle, and stay inside that window at both ends: a jacket under 12 mm won't compress enough for the seal to hold IP68, and over 20 mm the gland won't close down on it.

It's a 1 inch NPT male thread with 13 mm of thread length. The enclosure entry needs to be tapped 1 inch NPT, or drilled for a 1 inch NPT locknut on the inside. With only 13 mm of thread engagement, a thick-wall enclosure or a stack of washers can leave you short of full engagement, so check your wall thickness before you drill.

Yes. The SCG-1001 is rated IP68 and NEMA 4, so it handles hose-directed water and dust. The body is stainless steel V4A (316-class), which is why it holds up in wet and corrosive spots like exterior walls, food plants and car washes. Rating only holds if the cable OD is inside the 12 to 20 mm clamping range and the NPT thread is properly sealed into the enclosure.

No. The SCG-1001 is a non-armoured cable gland, so it clamps and seals on the outer jacket only. It has no armour clamp or cone to terminate steel wire armour, braid or interlocked metal armour, and it provides no bonding path for the armour. For SWA, MC or TECK you need an armoured gland or connector sized for that cable.

Rated -20 to +100 degrees C. That covers unheated outdoor enclosures in most of North America and hot machine cabinets, but the limit is the gland's seal, so check the cable jacket's own rating too since it is often the lower number.

It carries cULus, plus RoHS, WEEE and LVD. The cULus mark is the one an inspector looks for on both sides of the border.

Go stainless where corrosion or wash-down is the problem. The SCG-1001 is V4A stainless with an untreated finish, so it stands up in salt, chemical and food-plant environments where nylon glands chalk or crack and plated steel rusts at the threads. On a dry indoor panel a polymer gland does the same sealing job for less metal. Stainless also matters when the gland is the same material as the enclosure, since mixing metals at a wet entry invites galvanic corrosion.
