1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 12805 sideflash fit?
The Oatey 12805 has a tear-out collar that steps down to fit pipe from 1/2 inch up to 2-1/2 inch. You cut the collar back to the ring that matches your pipe OD, so one part covers the whole range of common condensate lines, refrigerant line sets, gas lines and small vents through a wall.
2) Is this Oatey flashing for a roof penetration or a sidewall penetration?
It is a sidewall part. The 12805 is a vertical flashing with an 8.5 in. by 8 in. base, made for piping that penetrates an outside wall rather than a sloped roof deck. For a pipe coming up through a roof you want a roof-pitched pipe boot instead.
3) Will the Oatey 12805 hold up on a hot refrigerant or flue line?
The 12805 is rated to 180 degrees F. That covers condensate, water lines and insulated refrigerant line sets. It is not a high-temperature part, so keep it off anything running above that, such as an uninsulated flue or vent stack with combustion temperatures.
4) Is this better than caulking or spray foam around a line set penetration?
That is the case Oatey makes for it. A hard plastic panel with a bonded elastomeric collar gives a mechanical seal around the pipe that will not fade, crack or rust, where caulk and foam degrade and get reopened by pests. Oatey states it is faster, less expensive and longer lasting than caulking or foam, and that it blocks bugs and vermin as well as air infiltration.
5) Does the Oatey 12805 sideflash help with air sealing and moisture on an envelope inspection?
Yes. Besides shedding water at the penetration, the 12805 seals against air penetration to cut energy loss and keeps moisture from intruding, which limits mold growth behind the wall. That makes it a reasonable detail for a blower-door-tested envelope where every wall penetration gets scrutinized.
