OATEY 11859 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Oatey 11859 No-Calk flashing fit a 1/2 inch vent pipe, or does it only work on 1 inch?
The 11859 No-Calk flashing covers pipe from 1/2 inch through 1 inch. The collar is self-sealing and slides down over the pipe, so anything in that range seats without caulk. Larger vents need a different size collar.
2) Can I use the Oatey 11859 flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11859 is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. On those assemblies the heat and asphalt application will damage the plastic collar. Use a flashing rated for BUR work instead.
3) Is the Oatey 11859 flashing rated for a hot flue or a Type B vent?
Rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations. That is the gas vent double wall case. It is not a rating for a single wall high temperature flue.
4) How much roof deck does the Oatey 11859 base cover, and will it fit between my rafters?
The galvanized steel base measures 11 x 14.5 inches, in 28 gauge. That footprint sits between standard 16 inch on center rafters with the longer dimension running up the slope under the shingle course above.
5) Can I paint the Oatey No-Calk flashing collar to match my roof?
Do not paint it, and keep petroleum based products off it. Paint and petroleum attack the collar and plastic base and will shorten the life of the seal. The base already comes in black.
6) Do I need sealant or caulk to install the Oatey 11859 pipe flashing?
No caulk at the pipe. The self-sealing collar makes the seal as it slides over the vent, which is the whole point of the No-Calk design. You still shingle over the upslope half of the base and nail it off the way any step-in flashing goes on.
