1) What roof pitch can the Oatey 11831 galvanized solar flashing be installed on?
Anything from a dead-flat 0 degrees up to 40 degrees of pitch, which covers roughly a 10:12 slope and below. Past 40 degrees it is the wrong flashing for the opening.
2) Can I use the Oatey No-Calk 11831 on a hot-mopped or built-up flat roof?
No. The 11831 is specifically excluded from hot-mopped and built-up roof assemblies. It is meant for shingle and comparable pitched-roof applications within its 0 to 40 degree range. For a hot-mopped deck you need a flashing rated for that assembly instead.
3) Is the Oatey 11831 flashing rated for a Type B gas vent or a hot flue?
The 11831 carries a 180 degrees F continuous heat rating and is approved for Type B installations, so it suits a Type B gas vent within that temperature. A single-wall flue or anything running hotter than 180 F continuous is outside what this flashing is rated for.
4) How big is the base on the Oatey 11831 roof flashing, and what is it made of?
The base is 28 gauge galvanized steel, 18 by 18 inches square. That gives you plenty of area to lap under the course above and over the course below on a shingle roof. The whole unit weighs about 1.7 lbs, so it is a one-hand carry up a ladder.
5) Do I need to seal or caulk around the pipe after installing an Oatey No-Calk flashing?
No caulk goes at the collar. The No-Calk collar seals against the pipe as it slides down, which is the entire point of the design. Just as important, do not run petroleum based products or paint over the collar or the plastic base, since those attack the material.
