1) What size CPVC pipe can Oatey 31130 orange cement be used on?
Oatey 31130 medium body orange CPVC cement works on all schedules and classes of CPVC pipe and fittings up to 6 inch diameter with an interference fit. Above that diameter you need a heavy body cement instead.
2) Can I use orange CPVC cement on white PVC DWV pipe?
No. The 31130 orange cement is formulated to solvent weld CPVC, including Corzan CPVC piping systems. For PVC drain, waste and vent or PVC pressure pipe, use a PVC-specific solvent cement.
3) Is this CPVC cement rated for hot water supply lines?
Yes. Joints made with the 31130 orange cement are rated for cold and hot water systems up to 200 degrees F (93 degrees C), which covers normal domestic hot water distribution in CPVC.
4) Is Oatey 31130 cement approved for potable water in a commercial building?
It complies with NSF/ANSI 61 health effects requirements and meets ASTM Standard F493, the standard for CPVC solvent cements. All Oatey solvent cement and primer products are also certified to UL Greenguard Gold.
5) Can I use this cement on a job in California with VOC limits?
Yes. The 31130 is a low VOC solvent cement meeting California South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) 1168/316A or BAAQMD Method 40 requirements, so it is acceptable where those air quality rules apply.
6) Can I use CPVC cement outdoors in cold weather?
The recommended application temperature range is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). Below 40 F, cure and set behavior falls outside the recommended range, so unheated crawlspaces and winter exterior work need to be warmed or scheduled around.
7) Why choose medium body CPVC cement over a regular body cement?
Medium viscosity fills gaps more easily and gives more working time before the joint sets, which helps on larger diameters and on fittings with looser tolerance. Regular body is thinner and sets faster, better suited to small diameter tubing where you can seat the joint quickly.
