1) Can I use Oatey 31128 orange cement on CPVC hot water lines?
Yes. The 31128 orange solvent cement is rated for cold and hot water systems up to 200F / 93C, so it handles domestic hot water distribution in CPVC. It also complies with NSF/ANSI 61 health effects requirements, which is what you need for potable water.
2) Will Oatey orange cement work on Corzan CPVC piping?
It's approved for use with Corzan CPVC piping systems. That matters on commercial and industrial jobs where the engineer has specified Corzan and the submittal requires an approved cement.
3) Can I use CPVC orange cement on PVC pipe?
No. The 31128 is formulated to solvent weld CPVC only. For PVC drain, waste and vent or PVC pressure pipe, use a PVC cement (typically clear or blue). Using CPVC cement on PVC, or PVC cement on CPVC, is not an approved joint and inspectors do look at cement color on a rough-in.
4) Is Oatey orange CPVC cement legal in California and other low-VOC air districts?
Yes. It's a low VOC solvent cement meeting SCAQMD Rule 1168/316A and BAAQMD Method 40 requirements, so it's usable in the California districts that restrict VOC content. It also meets ASTM F493, the standard spec for CPVC solvent cement, which is what most plumbing codes reference for the joint.
5) How cold can it be when I'm gluing CPVC with Oatey 31128?
Recommended application temperature runs 40F to 110F / 4C to 43C. Below that the solvent flashes off too slowly and cure times stretch out badly, so on a cold job site keep the can and the fittings warm and give the joint extra set time before you pressurize.
6) What's the difference between medium body and regular body CPVC cement?
Medium viscosity fills gaps more readily and gives you more working time before it sets, which is what you want on larger diameters, looser interference fits, and anywhere you have to align a fitting after the cement is on. A thinner regular body cement sets faster and suits small diameter tubing where the fit is tight and the joint goes together in one motion.
7) Does Oatey CPVC cement have a low-emission certification for schools and healthcare work?
