1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 11931 All-Flash High-Rise roof flashing seal?
The 11931 All-Flash High-Rise covers 3 inch and 4 inch DWV vent pipe. The All-Flash collar has a tear-away ring, so you remove the ring to open the collar up for the larger diameter and leave it intact for the smaller one. One part on the truck covers both common vent sizes.
2) Can I use this Oatey flashing on a steep pitched roof?
Yes. The High-Rise flashing slides down over the DWV pipe and is rated for roof pitch up to 60 degrees, so it works on steep-slope shingle and similar roofs, not just low-slope framing.
3) Is the Oatey 11931 base OK on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11931 has a rigid thermoplastic base and is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. On a BUR or mod-bit assembly you need a metal or lead flashing that can take the hot asphalt. The 11931 is approved for Type B installations.
4) Will the black plastic base fade or crack, and can I paint it to match the roof?
The base is a rigid black thermoplastic and the sealing collar is non-fading and non-cracking, so it holds up without coating. Do not paint it and do not use petroleum based products on the plastic base or the rubber collar; both will attack the material and shorten the life of the seal. If color match matters on a visible slope, plan the vent location rather than coating the flashing.
5) What size is the deck flange on the Oatey 11931, and will it fit between my rafters?
The base measures 13 by 20 inches, so you need that much clear deck around the vent penetration to lay the flange flat and shingle over it. On 16 inch on center framing the 20 inch dimension runs up-slope, which is normally the free direction; the 13 inch dimension is the one to check against your rafter spacing. Shipping weight is about 1.05 lbs.
6) Do I need a separate collar or sealant kit with the Oatey 11931, or is it complete?
The 11931 ships as a base with its All-Flash sealing collar already fitted, so there is no separate collar to order. You supply only the roofing fasteners and the shingle or membrane work above it. Skip the roofing cement if it is petroleum based, since that is not permitted against the plastic base or the collar.
