1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 12804 solar flashing fit?
The Oatey 12804 Aurora No-Calk flashing covers vent pipe from 1-1/2 in. up to 3 in. The self-sealing collar slides down over the pipe and grips it, so no caulk is needed at the penetration.
2) What roof pitch can this Oatey No-Calk aluminum flashing be installed on?
Pitch range is 0 to 40 degrees, so it covers everything from a dead-flat deck to a steep shingle roof. Above 40 degrees you need a different flashing.
3) Can I use the Oatey 12804 flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 12804 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. Asphalt and torch-applied systems are outside what this base is rated for, so specify a flashing intended for BUR on those decks.
4) Is this Oatey flashing OK on a vent from a gas water heater or furnace?
It is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, which is what makes it suitable over Type B gas vent as well as standard plumbing vent stacks.
5) How big is the base on the Oatey 12804 roof flashing, and will it tuck under standard shingle courses?
The aluminum base measures 9.5 in. x 12.5 in., which is the common single-shingle-course size for residential vent penetrations. The long dimension runs up the slope so the upper portion slips under the course above and the lower portion laps over the course below.
6) Do I need to caulk or seal around the collar on the Oatey No-Calk flashing?
No caulking at the collar. The collar seals itself against the pipe as it slides on. Just as important, keep petroleum-based products and paint off the collar and plastic base, since they degrade the seal.
7) What is the Oatey 12804 flashing made of, and does it come painted?
The base is aluminum and ships unfinished, so it arrives in bare mill aluminum rather than a color-matched coating. Don't paint it: paint on the collar or plastic base is specifically ruled out by Oatey.
