OATEY 12852 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Oatey 12852 roof flashing work on a low-slope or steep roof?
The Oatey 12852 No-Calk flashing is rated for roof pitch from 0 to 40 degrees, so it covers everything from a dead-flat deck up to roughly a 10:12 slope. It is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs, so if the deck is tar-and-gravel or mod-bit torch-down, this is the wrong flashing.
2) Does the Oatey 12852 need caulk or sealant around the pipe?
No. The self-sealing collar slides down over the pipe and seals against it without caulking. One caution: do not use petroleum based products or paint on the collar or the plastic base, as they will attack it.
3) Can the Oatey 12852 be used on a hot vent or Type B gas flue?
It is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, so it suits Type B gas vent as well as plumbing vent stacks. For anything running hotter than that continuous rating, use a different flashing.
4) Will the aluminum base on the Oatey 12852 conform to an uneven roof deck?
Yes. The base is stamped soft aluminum, so it can be shaped by hand to the roof contour and over shingle profiles, and it is rustproof. The base ships unfinished, which is normal for a flashing that gets covered by the course above it.
