1) Will the Oatey 39017 Sure-Vent work on a 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch vent line?
Yes. The 39017 Sure-Vent air admittance valve is sized for 1-1/2 inch to 2 inch vent pipe and comes with a PVC Schedule 40 adapter, so it solvent-welds straight onto Sch 40 PVC of those sizes. One size is approved to handle up to 3 inch vent pipe as well.
2) How many fixture units can one Sure-Vent 39017 handle?
Up to 160 DFU on a branch or 24 DFU on a stack. That covers a typical bathroom group or island sink run on the branch side, but if you are venting a whole stack with heavy load, check the stack number first, since 24 DFU is the limiting figure.
3) Can an air admittance valve replace the main vent through the roof?
No. The 39017 is approved for use as a secondary vent only. Your system still needs its primary vent open to atmosphere. Use the Sure-Vent where running a conventional vent is impractical, like an island sink or a remodel addition, not as a substitute for the stack vent.
