1) Will Orca FT Series barn door hardware work on a 1-3/8 inch door?
Yes. The FT Series flat track kit is built for interior doors of either 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches thick, with 1-3/4 inches the maximum. A thicker slab, or a solid core door built up past 1-3/4 inches, is outside what the standard drop hangers and spacers will handle.
2) How much can a door weigh on this Orca flat track kit?
200 lbs per door. That covers most 1-3/4 inch solid core interior slabs at typical barn door sizes. Wheels are polymer rather than steel, which keeps the roll quiet, and the kit is catalogued for commercial use.
3) What comes in the Orca FTST flat track kit, and what do I still have to buy?
The kit is complete for one door: track, two hangers, spacers, end stops, anti-jump blocks, a connector plate for optional use, door guides, all fasteners and instructions. The anti-jump blocks and connector plate are specific to the flat track kits. What is not included is the door itself, any pull or handle, and any privacy latch. Soft close and soft open are separate add-ons.
4) Can I hang two doors on one Orca FT Series track?
Yes, two ways. Either order a double door kit, or add extra hangers, stops and a guide to this single door kit. Orca also lists bypass applications as an option if the two doors need to pass each other rather than meet in the middle. As supplied, the kit is set up for one door with two hangers.
5) Does the Orca barn door track mount to the wall or the ceiling?
Sidewall mount. The track fastens to the wall above the opening, typically through the spacers into blocking or a header board, not to the ceiling. If your opening has no solid backing above it, plan on a backer board before the track goes up.
6) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand version of this barn door track kit?
No handing to specify. The FT Series flat track kit is non-handed, so the same kit slides a door to the left or the right. You decide direction at install by where you set the end stops and the floor guide.
7) What keeps a barn door from jumping off the flat track?
Anti-jump blocks, which are included in the Orca flat track kits. They sit under the track and stop the hangers lifting off if the door is shoved or bounced, which matters in multi-family and commercial corridors where doors get handled hard. A floor guide comes in the kit too and keeps the bottom of the slab from swinging away from the wall.
8) What finishes does the Orca FT Series 10 foot flat track kit come in?
Three: black, satin nickel and stainless steel. Black is the usual match for painted or dark stained slabs in a barn style opening, while satin nickel and stainless steel read closer to commercial lever and pull hardware if you are standardizing a building on one finish family.
9) Is this Orca track rated for residential use only or can I spec it in a commercial building?
