Rockwood 106-US26D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I mount a Rockwood 106 pull back to back with another pull on the same door?
Back to back mounting in pairs is an ordering option, specified with the BTB suffix plus the mounting type number (Rockwood writes it as 107BTB5). For a single pull with no exposed fasteners on the opposite face, use the C suffix for concealed mounting with the mounting type number (107C6). Standard duty mounting is 1/4-20. Pick the mounting before you order, since it changes the hardware that comes in the box.
2) Does the Rockwood 106 pull meet ANSI A156.6?
It is built to ANSI A156.6 and carries the J401 type designation, the architectural door trim standard a spec writer or institutional buyer will be looking for on a submittal. It is a commercial grade pull, not a residential one.
3) Is the Rockwood 106 pull long enough for a full-height glass or storefront door?
No. At 6 inches center to center it is a grab pull, not a ladder pull. For a long vertical pull on a glass front or entry door, look at the Deltana SSP1210, a 12 inch contemporary single side pull, or the 24 inch back-to-back sets, the SSPOBB24 offset and the SSPORBB24 round offset. Use the 106 where you want a compact grip near the lock or on an interior office door.
4) What is the closest straight door pull to the Rockwood 106 with a 3/4 inch bar?
The Ives 8102HD is the nearest match. It is a heavy duty straight door pull built on a 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance, the same bar diameter and the same 1-1/2 inch clearance the Rockwood 106 carries. Both are straight-pattern pulls, so the grip shape and the hand position on the door are the same. Confirm center-to-center against the existing bolt holes before ordering, since the 106 is a 6 inch CTC pull.
5) What straight pull should I use if I want a heavier 1 inch bar instead of 3/4 inch?
Two straight pulls step up to a 1 inch bar. The Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight door pull with a 1 inch round bar and through bolt mounting, and the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end commercial door pull with a 1.00 inch diameter bar. The thicker bar fills the hand more and is the usual choice on high traffic entrances; the Rockwood 106 uses a 3/4 inch bar. Through bolt mounting matches how the 106 mounts, with a 1/4-20 x 2-1/2 inch thru bolt and finish washer for a standard 1-3/4 inch door.
6) The 106 straight pull knuckles against the door. What offset pull can I use instead?
An offset pull moves the grip away from the door face and gives more room behind the hand. The ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end door pull in a commercial grade surface mount, the ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid door pull with a 1 inch diameter and heavy duty mounting. All three change the grip geometry from the straight bar pattern the Rockwood 106 uses.
7) I need a pull on both sides of the door. Is there a back-to-back set instead of ordering two 106 pulls?
Yes, several. The Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset door pull set, the Deltana SSPORBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back round offset set, and the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull sold as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch thick. Note that thickness range if your door is heavier stock. The Rockwood 106 pattern also supports back to back mounting in pairs using the BTB suffix with the mounting type number.
8) How much wall or frame room do I need beside a 6 inch CTC door pull?
Mounting holes on the 106 are 6 inches apart center to center, so the mounting footprint is compact and it suits narrow stiles and glass door rails where a long pull will not land. Plan for 2-5/8 inches of projection into the traffic path when the door swings toward you.
9) What finishes does the Rockwood 106 straight pull come in?
Two: 626 satin chrome and 622 matte black. Satin chrome is the workhorse match for most commercial openings already running satin stainless or chrome trim; 622 matte black pairs with darker storefront and contemporary interior packages. The body is brass under the finish.
10) Do I need an ADA compliant offset pull instead of a straight pull?
A straight bar pull like the 106 is grasped with a full hand and works on most commercial openings. Where the spec calls for an offset grip or extra hand clearance, the Ives 8145 EZ Series is a 45 degree offset pull and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset pull at 1 inch diameter. Rockwood also builds the 106 with 2-1/2 inch barrier free clearance under the BF prefix if the issue is knuckle room rather than grip shape.
11) Is the Rockwood 106 the right pull for an apartment or residential entry door?
It is a commercial specification pull, brass with thru bolt mounting, meant for institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention, sports facilities and hospitality. On a residential entry where the look matters more than the cycle count, the Emtek Baden, Brisbane, Arts and Crafts, or cast bronze Art Nouveau 8 inch pulls are decorative alternatives. On a thin residential door, note the Deltana OHP620 back-to-back offset set is built for 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch doors, while the 106 is fastened for 1-3/4 inches as standard.
12) Should I use a door pull or a push plate on the pull side of a restroom door?
A pull goes on the pull side, a push plate on the push side, and most restroom and corridor openings get both. The 106 covers the pull side at 6 inch CTC with 1-1/2 inch clearance. For the push side, the Trimco 1001-1 heavy duty push plate is 3 inches by 12 inches and the Trimco 1041 half round plate is 8 inches by 16 inches. If you want a pull that doubles as a door opener for people avoiding hand contact, the Trimco 1035 Ultimate Restroom Pull is built for that.
13) Can I get the pull and the push plate on one piece instead of a separate 106 pull?
The Trimco 1070 series classic push/pull plates combine the plate and the pull on a single 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch plate, so one part covers both faces of the prep. That is a different mounting footprint than the Rockwood 106, which is a bar pull on a 6 inch center-to-center bolt pattern with base plates. Choose the combined plate when you want the door face covered and the bar pull when the existing prep is already drilled for a two-bolt pattern.
