Rockwood 110X70C-32D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Rockwood 110x70C meet ANSI/BHMA for commercial door pulls?
It's classified to ANSI A156.6, J405, the BHMA standard covering architectural door trim. Combined with stainless steel construction, that's the paperwork an institutional or MRO spec usually asks for on a pull plate.
2) How do I order a Rockwood 110x70 pull plate with ADA barrier free clearance?
Add the BF prefix, so the part becomes BF110 x 70C. That gives 2-1/2 inch clearance behind the pull instead of the standard grip. Rockwood also offers a heavy bevel on the plate edge, ordered by specifying HVBEV.
3) The Rockwood 110x70C has an 8 inch center to center pull. What are my options if the door prep is drilled for a shorter pull spread?
The 110x70C pull sits on 8 inch centers, so it wants a prep drilled to that spread. If your existing prep is tighter, the Trimco 1010 series cast pull plate uses a 5 inch center-to-center pull, and both the Trimco 1012 cast tapered pull plate and the Trimco 1013 round pull plate use a 5.5 inch center-to-center pull. The Trimco 1014 series half-round pull plate falls between at 6 inch center-to-center. Match the peer to the hole spacing already in the door rather than re-drilling for the 8 inch spread.
4) I have a narrower stile and a 4 inch wide pull plate will not fit. What should I use instead of the Rockwood 110x70C?
The 110x70C rides on a 4 inch by 16 inch plate, which needs that much flat stile face. For a narrower stile, the Delaney 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch Door Pull Plate gives you the same pull-plate function on a plate that is half an inch narrower and an inch shorter, so it clears tighter glass stops and lite frames the 4 inch plate will not.
5) What finishes does the Rockwood 110x70C straight pull plate come in?
Two: 630 satin stainless steel and 613 oil rubbed bronze. 630 is the usual choice when the rest of the openings are brushed stainless and you want the pull to disappear into the hardware set; 613 is the darker option for hospitality or a wood door where satin steel would read cold. Both are on the same stainless steel plate.
6) Can I use through bolts with the Rockwood 110x70C on a glass or hollow metal door?
Yes, and through bolting is the mounting to use on any door that sees real traffic. The 110x70C includes 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts with finish washers, which sandwich the plate through the door rather than relying on screws biting into the face. The #6 x 5/8 inch sheet metal screws are the lighter alternative where you can't get through the door.
7) The Rockwood 110x70C is too plain for a hospitality or high-end residential entrance. What else can I use?
The 110x70C is a straight-pull stainless plate built to ANSI A156.6 J405 for commercial traffic, so its look is utilitarian by design. For a decorative entrance, Emtek offers push and pull plate sets in the Modern series, the Knoxville series, and the Lost Wax Cast Bronze Petal series. Those give you a styled plate and pull as a matched set where the 110x70C gives you a plain stainless plate.
8) I am standardizing pull plates across a building. Does the Rockwood 110x70C mix with Delaney plates on adjacent doors?
Dimensionally they can line up: the 110x70C sits on a 4 inch by 16 inch plate and Delaney offers both a 4 inch by 16 inch Door Pull Plate and a 4 inch by 16 inch Push Plate at that same footprint, plus a 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch pull and push pair for narrower stiles. What will not carry across is the pull geometry, since the 110x70C pull is on 8 inch centers, and the finish, which for the Rockwood is offered in 613 oil rubbed bronze and 630 satin stainless steel. For a building standard, pick one plate size and one finish family and hold it across all the openings.
9) Does the Rockwood 110x70C hold up in a high traffic building?
Stainless steel plate and pull, built to ANSI A156.6 J405 and specified for commercial use. Rockwood trim of this type is used in institutional buildings, schools, detention, sports facilities, offices, retail, and hospitality, which is the traffic level it's meant for. Through bolt it rather than using the sheet metal screws if the door sees constant use.
10) Which pull plates are cast rather than fabricated stainless like the Rockwood 110x70C?
The Rockwood 110x70C is stainless steel. If a cast plate is what the spec calls for, the Trimco 1010 series and the Trimco 1012 are both cast heavy duty pull plates, at 5 inch and 5.5 inch center-to-center respectively, and Emtek's Petal push and pull plates are lost wax cast bronze. Cast plates carry a different edge and surface character than fabricated stainless, which matters when you are matching existing trim on a facility.
