    Schlage L9010 06A 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

    1) What is the 2-3/4 inch backset on the Schlage L9010 and will it match my existing mortise prep?
    The L9010 uses a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the standard commercial mortise backset, so it drops into a door already prepped for an ANSI mortise lock of that dimension. Measure from the door edge to the centerline of the lever spindle on the old lock to confirm. If your existing prep is a 2-1/2 inch backset, as on the Baldwin 6301 mortise lock body, the L9010 will not line up.
    2) Does the Schlage L9010 lock the door at all, or is it just a latch?
    It never locks. The L9010 is a passage function: the latchbolt retracts from the lever on either side at all times, and the inside lever is always free for egress. There is no cylinder and no keyway, since it is a non-keyed lock. Use it on corridor doors, hall doors, and closets where you want a Grade 1 mortise lever but no security. If you need the door to lock, look at a keyed L Series function instead.
    3) Will the Schlage L9010 latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
    The latchbolt is a 3/4 inch throw stainless steel bolt with an anti-friction tongue, and the lock ships with the Schlage 10-072 box strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, square corner, with a 1-3/16 inch lip. If your frame already has a square-corner ANSI strike cut of that size, the new latch will engage it. If your existing strike is radius corner or a different height, install the supplied strike and adjust the frame cutout. The 1-3/16 inch lip length is set for a standard frame reveal; a deeper reveal wants a longer lip.
    4) Is the Schlage L9010 handed, or can I use one lock on both left and right hand doors?
    No handing to specify on the lock itself. The L9010 is field reversible, so one lock serves either hand and you can stock a single part across a building. The one place hand does matter is trim selection: the 12 lever design is ordered as either left hand or right hand, while the 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17, 18, Latitude, Longitude and Omega designs are not handed.
    5) Can I use the Schlage L9010 on a 3 hour fire rated door?
    Yes. The L9000 latch is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and the UL/cUL listing covers A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol stamped on the latch front are how the inspector verifies it in the field. Since passage function leaves the door unlocked at all times, egress is never impeded.
    6) What is the closest equivalent to a Schlage L9010 passage mortise lock from another manufacturer?
    The Falcon MA101 is the nearest match. Like the L9010, it is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise lock built for the passage/hall/closet function, and it is field reversible, as the L9010 is.     12) Is the Schlage L9010 ADA compliant for a lever on a public corridor?
    It meets ADA requirements, and because passage function needs no tight grasping or key operation the lever is operable with a closed fist. On the code side, all L Series levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch (64 mm) or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code, so check the specific lever design against that if you are building in California.
